Why Leaving Arsenal Is the Worst Thing a Player Can Do

Callum D'SouzaApr 3, 2009

This article was developed because of all the tedious rumours revolving around Arsenal and their players.

Robin van Persie is on the verge of leaving unless Arsenal can bag some trophies, Emmanuel Adebayor is off to AC Milan, Cesc Fabregas is leaving for Madrid, and William Gallas is going all around the world, as is Kolo Toure.

But it seems that, if players leave Arsenal to try their luck with a team that has a better chance of winning trophies, their career will never be as good as it was at Arsenal.

Let's now look back at some former Arsenal players that opted to play for another club, and see how they fared after leaving.

Partick Vieira

Arsenal's once fearless leader and midfield maestro left Arsenal in 2005 to join Juventus. Vieira has still been in the fray, but has never really achieved the status he once achieved in North London.

The Frenchmen is now kicking ball for Inter Milan.

Freddie Ljungberg

The quick Swede, who was a brave and talented winger for the Gunners, has since vanished after leaving Arsenal in 2007, and is set to debut in the MLS later this year.

Ljungberg was a terrific player when at Arsenal and his efforts helped Arsenal win the premiership in 2001/2002 and 2003/2004.

Theirry Henry

Henry is easily one of Arsenal's and football history's all-time great goal scorers. The French striker netted a countless amount of goals and trophies before scooting off to Spain to play for Barcelona.

Since joining Barcelona in 2008, he has won nothing, but has maintained his scoring prowess.

Mathieu Flamini

This is a story. Flamini was made famous by Arsene Wenger and his stellar performances last season. But his good form got to his head and the French midfielder demanded a ton of money and trophies.

He felt Arsenal could not bring him the desired hardware, so he darted away to play for AC Milan and has made no heads turn.

It seems the midfielder has done s**t since leaving the Gunners, and you can't help but imagine what would of been if he had stayed with Wenger.

Alexander Hleb

The Belorussian was a doughty performer for Arsenal. Last season he was a stand-out performer in all of Arsenal's matches, but he felt Arsenal was simply not good enough for his talent and went to join Thierry Henry in Barcelona.

Hleb has had the same impact as Flamini—s**t all.

PlusI havent even mentioned the likes Edu, Ashely Cole, Matthew Upson and Slyvihno. There is no doubt a pattern that has proved true each time—leave Arsenal and you will never be the same player.

So to van Persie, Adebayor, etc., staying at Arsenal will be the best thing you will ever do throughout your football career.
