SEC Recruiting Power Rankings Post-5-Star WR Laquon Treadwell's Commitment

Edwin WeathersbyJun 4, 2018

SEC recruiting received a huge jolt a few moments ago when 5-star WR prospect Laquon Treadwell of Crete-Monee High School in Illinois committed to Ole Miss (Rivals.com). This is huge news for the Mississippi, as it could be the start of a historic recruiting finish for Ole Miss football.

Treadwell is viewed as an elite receiver and some list him as tops in the country this year. So just how much does his commitment to the Rebels impact the SEC recruiting class rankings? Well, for starters, a lot.

Come on inside as we rank the SEC's 2013 recruiting classes now that a 5-star WR has announced he will be playing for Hugh Freeze in Oxford, MS.

14. Kentucky

1 of 14

Mark Stoops is the new coach at UK, and even though his class is below the SEC's great pace, look for Stoops to mold this group into one that'll help him in Lexington.

Kentucky holds 20 commitments and the top prospects include JUCO players Javess Blue and Za'Darius Smith, who play WR and DE respectively. Also look out for DE Alvonte Bell and OL Kyle Meadows.

Keep your eye on center Lovell Peterson too.

13. Arkansas

2 of 14

Bret Bielema will try to work on RB Altee Tenpenny and hope he chooses to spurn Alabama for the Hogs, but until then Bielema has a small 13-man class.

The headliner is 6'6", 240-pund TE Hunter Henry. QB Austin Allen is a solid signal-caller, and Brooks Ellis can play any LB position.

Bielema will build this program into a spitting image of his tough Wisconsin teams.

12. Missouri

3 of 14

This class won't come in with the pomp and circumstance of Gary Pinkel's 2012 group, but it'll still help the Tigers.

Mizzou has 19 commitments thus far and its top player is ATH Chase Abbington. He's 6'4", 210 pounds and has the versatility to play WR, S, OLB and even some RB. He reminds me a little bit of Colt Lyerla.

Some classes may be ranked than Missouri's this year, but this group will compete.

Butch Jones has come to Knoxville and has immediately gone big-game hunting. He's gone after Carl Lawson and will get his chance to talk to Vonn Bell.

Right now, Jones has 18 commitments, but he seems to want to add to that. QB Riley Ferguson is his top prospect, followed by OT Austin Sanders, LB Cory Vereen and WR Ryan Jenkins.

Moving forward, look for Jones to work the state of Ohio for prospects.

10. Vanderbilt

5 of 14

The Commodores have hit the jackpot with their coach in James Franklin. They're on the verge of landing their second consecutive top 25 class and it's a good one.

Franklin has gotten 22 players to commit, and that includes DT Jay Woods, QB Johnathon McCrary, WR DeAndre Woods, CB Tre' Bell and WR Carlos Burse.

Vandy has to be stoked for this class, and once this group is integrated with last year's class, the Commodores may have their best team in school history.

9. Mississippi State

6 of 14

Dan Mullen has got things going in the right direction in Starkville, and he has one of the most intriguing prospects in the country committed to him in DE Chris Jones.

At 6'7", 260 pounds, Jones could be the next Jadaveon Clowney once he gets coached up. JUCO WR Jeremy Chappelle will help immediately, and I really like dual-threat QB Cord Sandberg.

ATH Ashton Shumpert and OL Deon Mix are also top commitments among the Bulldogs' 22-commit class.

8. South Carolina

7 of 14

Steve Spurrier has 20 commitments coming to Columbia and this class could be among the top 25 on signing day. QB Connor Mitch could be ready to start in the 2014 season, and RB David Williams will help in both the running and passing game.

DT Kelsey Griffin should become a stout NT, and LB Larenz Bryant has three-down skills. This class should allow the Gamecocks to continue to challenge for SEC East titles.

7. Auburn

8 of 14

Auburn has 15 commitments right now, but they'll have to work hard to keep some of them. DE Carl Lawson, RB Jordan Wilkins and even DE Tashawn Bower.

QB Jeremy Johnson has good size and arm strength to fit into Gus Malzahn's offense. JUCO QB Nick Marshall also is committed.

I also will like to see what OLB Cameron Toney can accomplish on The Plains.

6. Ole Miss

9 of 14

Treadwell's commitment (Rivals.com) launches the Rebels all the way up to this slot, but they're likely not done. The Rebels still are awaiting on decisions from DE Robert Nkemdiche, S Antonio Conner and DE Elijah Daniel.

For now, Treadwell is the top prospect in a 21-commitment class that also features QB Devin Kincade, QB Ryan Buchanan, RB Kailo Moore and JUCO ATH Quadarius Mireles.

Also, Hugh Freeze will get Nick Brassell back, and DT Lavon Hooks will transfer in from the JUCO ranks.

5. LSU

10 of 14

The Tigers have a potential top 10 class in the works, yet again. Les Miles has gathered 25 commitments and has several top-notch prospects in the fold.

ATH Kendell Beckwith, QB Hayden Rettig, CB Jeryl Brazil, OT Ethan Pocic and DTs Greg Gilmore and Maquedius Bain are the studs of this group.

LSU also will regain WR Avery Johnson in this class, plus other prospects include OG Tevin Lawson, TE DaSean Smith and DE Frank Herron.

4. Georgia

11 of 14

Georgia has 29 commitments, and it could be poised to add a few other upper-echelon prospects to the group before signing day ends.

Mark Richt has commitments from prospects like QB Brice Ramsey, CB Shaq Wiggins, LB Tim Kimbrough, S Tray Matthews and OC Brandon Kublanow.

This is a large class, but it has good quality and figures to be among the nation's best.

3. Texas A&M

12 of 14

The Aggies have 33 pledges and their class is the country's biggest this year. With commitments from the likes of WR Ricky Seals-Jones, DT Justin Manning, QB Kohl Stewart and WR/TE Derrick Griffin, this is a star-studded group.

Most classes want to hit on 60 percent of their commitments, if the Aggies do that with this class, then they may have about 20 starting-caliber players coming to College Station.

2. Alabama

13 of 14

This is another excellent class for 'Bama, as their 21-commitment class will contend for No. 1 overall honors.

RB Derrick Henry, TE OJ Howard, DE Jonathan Allen, QB Cooper Bateman, CB Maurice Smith and DE Tim Williams are among the top prospects in this class. JUCO OT Leon Brown will help immediately, and OG Grant Hill is a future starter too.

Nick Saban has pretty much started pull elite recruiting classes in his sleep.

1. Florida

14 of 14

The Gators have the best class in the SEC and the country. Will Muschamp has 27 commitments, and CB Vernon Hargreaves III is the clear-cut headliner.

RB Kelvin Taylor, DT Caleb Brantley, S Keanu Neal and LBs Daniel McMillan, Alex Anzalone and Matt Rolin are the top prospects among others. This is a special Gator class and could become a foundation for a future playoff team.

Ole Miss won the Laquon Treadwell sweepstakes today, but Florida still is winning the overall SEC and national recruiting race.
