Fantasy Premier League: 5 Tips for Game Week 22

Bimersha GautamJan 7, 2013

As we head out into Game Week (GW) 22, here are some tips for those wishing to earn some fantasy bragging rights.

Pick Players from Chelsea and Southampton

Remember that both Chelsea and Southampton are playing two games this week, which means there are additional fantasy points up for grabs. Oftentimes, such games allow for fantasy players to garner additional points and move up in the rankings.

My suggestion would be to pick Ross Turnbull at goalkeeper—he is cheap at 4.3mn and chances are Chelsea will aim to keep clean sheets for both the ties (against Stoke City and Southampton).

Picking Branislav Ivanovic is also a great option. He is a towering aerial threat who is known to score quite a few from corners. He is also a definite starter, so risk is minimized.

For the midfield position, I would suggest picking Juan Mata, as he is one of the players least hurt by rotation and is threatening in front of goal.

Southampton are not adept at keeping clean sheets, so I would avoid picking defenders from their team. Two obvious choices to pick would be Jason Puncheon and Ricki Lambert. Both have been quite exceptional this season and have racked up many fantasy points along the way.

As a third choice, Gaston Ramirez would also be a plausible option. Morgan Schneiderlin might be a good pick.

Don't Pick Demba Ba or Fernando Torres

Many will be tempted to pick either of these candidate for two reasons—firstly, Chelsea are playing two games, and secondly, both are in quite good form.

However, Chelsea don't play a 4-4-2 formation. Instead, they predominantly play 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1. Hence, it is not sure which of these players will get playing time and it is certain that they will be rotated with each other.

I cannot imagine playing either of these two in another position other than as the main striker.

Pick Robin van Persie

Robin van Persie is the most expensive player, but it is for good reason. He is a great buy for the long term, as he continually scores, conjures assists and also garners a lot of bonus points. If your budget is a bit tight, Luis Suarez is the next best option.

He is also in great goalscoring form.

Pick Michu

Michu has been the bargain buy for this season and he is also a great long-term buy.

This week, Swansea face Everton. And Everton leak goals. They have had only two clean sheets this entire season and the most likely candidate to score against them in GW 22 is indeed the Spaniard.

Don't Pick Sergio Agüero

Agüero has been in brilliant form this season, but you should not pick him for this week. He has a hamstring injury (per The Guardian) and his chances of playing will be minimized. Plus, they are playing Arsenal, and even if he does play, Arsenal can prove to be quite a formidable opponent.
