Seahawks vs. Bills: Spread Info, Line and Predictions

Jun 7, 2018

The NFL heads to Canada this weekend, as the Buffalo Bills will host the Seattle Seahawks in Toronto on Sunday.

The Seahawks (8-5) enter the game with a ton of momentum after they beat the Arizona Cardinals 58-0 last week. As the season draws to a close, a win against the Bills on the road would be a huge boost to their playoff chances, especially heading into a pivotal home game against the San Francisco 49ers next week.

The Bills (5-8) haven't had the type of success that many fans were hoping for at the beginning of the season, when the Bills were a trendy pick to contend in the AFC East. The playoffs are out of reach, but the Bills will still look to finish the season strong. Beating Seattle would be a good start.

Where: Rogers Centre, Toronto, Canada

Spread: Seattle -6 (via Bovada)

Just one week after a 58-0 victory for Seattle, it may be baffling to some that the Seahawks are only a six-point favorite at what is really a neutral field against a struggling Buffalo Bills team. However, the Seahawks could have a more difficult time covering this spread than most would anticipate.

As great as Seattle has been this season, their record on the road is still questionable. The Seahawks finally captured a signature road win against the Bears two weeks ago, but their road record this season still sits at 2-5.

The Bills aren't an overly impressive team, but they've either won or been within seven points of a victory in each of their last five games.

The Seahawks deserve to be the favorites here, but covering the seven-point spread is far from a lock.

Over/Under: 43 (via Covers)

Despite Seattle's excellent defense, this one should hit the over.

Both teams have impressive rushing attacks. And while the loss of Fred Jackson hurts the Bills, C.J. Spiller has proved that he is more than capable of providing the spark in the run game to break off big plays against anyone.

The Seahawks defense has been great this season, but they've given up 22 points per game in their last three road games.

The Bills are 28th in the league when it comes to stopping the run—allowing 134 yards per game—so they are not well-equipped to shut down Marshawn Lynch and the Seahawks offense either. Both teams should be able to score into the 20's.

Take the over.

Fantasy Big Plays

Seattle: RB Marshawn Lynch

Starting both running backs from these teams is a no-brainer.

Lynch has been great this season and should come through for owners, once again, in the fantasy playoffs. This is an excellent matchup for him, as the Bill have been awful against the run all season and the Seahawks are one of the best running teams in the league.

Lynch enters this game as the No. 5 running back in fantasy football this season, and he could see that overall ranking receive a bump with another monster game here.

Projected Stats: 20 carries, 125 yards, 2 TD's

Buffalo: RB C.J. Spiller

Spiller made a huge splash at the beginning of the season with back-to-back 20-plus point games in Week 1 and Week 2, but his timeshare with Fred Jackson eventually ate into his value.

Spiller owners should be sure to plug him into their lineups this week, though. With Jackson out of the picture, the Bills offense will need Spiller to show up big time. That means additional carries and more opportunities for Spiller to get loose.

Despite being limited in carries this season, Spiller has managed to go over 10 fantasy points nine times in 13 games. You can imagine his potential as the "go-to" option in the Bills offense.

Projected Stats: 18 carries, 110 yards, 1 TD

Key to Victory

Ryan Fitzpatrick vs. Russell Wilson

The running backs fill the highlight reel for these two teams, but neither team can win when their quarterback isn't playing with efficiency.

For the Bills, this season's story has been the inconsistent play of Ryan Fitzpatrick. A simple look at his stats in wins vs. losses shows that when Fitzpatrick turns the ball over, they don't win.

Wins: 76/130, 819 yards, 7 TD, 1 INT

Losses: 177/276, 1,899 yards, 14 TD's, 12 INT's

When looking at the Seahawks, rookie quarterback Russel Wilson sees an even more sharp decline in his play between wins and losses.

Wins: 118/186, 1,597 yards, 15 TD's, 3 INT's

Losses: 90/144, 895 yards, 5 TD's, 6 INT's

Both teams will look to run the ball, first and foremost, but the quarterbacks will be the difference. Whichever guy can extend plays and drives without turning the ball over will lead their team to victory.

Prediction

The Seahawks have established themselves as a great team at home this season. The question surrounding them has been whether they can win on the road.

They took a huge step in answering that question with an overtime win in Chicago in Week 13, and they should take another big step here against the Bills. At this point, the Seahawks are a legitimate playoff team and should be able to get past a Bills team that has plenty of issues.

The Bills should put together a good game and make it close, but it won't be enough to pull off the upset.

Predicted Final Score: Seattle 28, Bills 24
