College Football Locks for Week 13

Joe PenkalaJun 7, 2018

With one week remaining, conference titles are still on the line and one spot is still open in the national championship.

As the bowl season approaches, teams and players still have many of their goals in front of them. But it all starts with earning a win this weekend.

Here is a look at several of the most important games, and why these teams are locks to win their crucial games and advance.

Stanford Wins Pac-12 Title

1 of 7

Less than a week ago, Stanford and UCLA met in Southern California. The Cardinal had their way and won big over UCLA, clinching the Pac-12 North division.

With the win, these two teams meet back up tonight and are now playing for the Pac-12 title. With more on the line, UCLA will certainly bring a stronger effort.

But with the size and strength of their running game, look for Stanford to win by 10-plus points.

Northern Illinois Wins by a Field Goal Again

2 of 7

For Northern Illinois, they have returned to the MAC title game in an effort to defend last year's title. Kent State is more of a surprise, but based on their offense and defense, the Golden Flashes belong in this game.

Last year, the Huskies found a way to get into field goal range and beat Ohio by three points. Due to how evenly matched these two teams are, look for Northern Illinois to lean on last year's  experience and win another close game.

Oklahoma Crushes TCU

3 of 7

While the odds were not in Oklahoma's favor, they have found themselves back in the Big 12 title hunt. If the Sooners can beat TCU and Texas takes down Kansas State, the Sooners will be back on top of the conference.

The Sooners will come out in this game firing, knowing how much is on the line, and will put away TCU early. Look for Oklahoma to win this game by 14-plus points.

Kansas State Punches Their Ticket to the BCS

4 of 7

After a rough loss to Baylor on the road, Kansas State had this past week off. They now return to the field against Texas.

Last week, the dreams of heading to the national title disappeared. The Wildcats need to make sure the Big 12 title does not also slip away.

With one game remaining, Collin Klein will put this team on his back and lead them to a win, clinching the Big 12 title and sending K-State to the Fiesta Bowl.

Florida State Wins Conference Title by Biggest Total

5 of 7

After suffering their second loss of the season, Florida State is going to look to bounce back in the ACC title game. This weekend, the Seminoles take on Georgia Tech.

This will be the most lopsided conference title game this year.

Florida State is deep all over the field. Once their defense shuts down the Yellow Jackets attack, this game will get out of hand.

Wisconsin Finds a Way to Get Back to Rose Bowl

6 of 7

During the past two years, Wisconsin had dominant teams. They were able to cash in on those teams by heading to back-to-back Rose Bowl games.

This year, the Badgers did not look like a team that would compete for the Big Ten title. But due to sanctions in their division, the Badgers are heading back to the conference title game.

This game will be extremely close as both Wisconsin and Nebraska can run the ball and control the clock. But watch the Badgers as they pull off the upset.

Alabama Heads Back to Defend Their Title

7 of 7

A few weeks ago after Alabama lost to Texas A&M, it appeared that the Tide and the SEC had fallen out of the BCS national title game. Just a week later, teams began to drop like flies and the Tide were back in the title hunt.

This weekend, Alabama and Georgia play each other in the SEC title game with a spot in the BCS national title game on the line.

While these teams are evenly matched, the Tide have a way of playing their best in big games. Alabama will find a way to get back to the national title game in order to attempt a defense of their title.
