College Football: Ranking Most Interesting Conference Championship Matchups
This weekend, teams around the nation will go head to head with a chance to win their conference title game. While some of these games will crown a conference champion, some have an even bigger impact.
In some of these games, teams will punch their ticket to an important bowl game, but all eyes will be on the SEC title game as the winner of that matchup will head to Miami to take on Notre Dame for the national championship.
Before the weekend arrives, here is a look at the conference title games and how they stack up against each other.
No.6: UCF vs Tulsa (Conference USA)
1 of 6While it may not have the appeal of an undefeated team like last year's game, the Conference USA title game should be outstanding.
Just a few weeks ago, these two teams played and Tulsa won at home but by only two points.
Both teams enter this game with strong offenses and defenses, and viewers should be in for another close battle for the Conference USA title.
No. 5: Nebraska vs Wisconsin (Big Ten)
2 of 6Throughout the season the Big Ten has taken heat for how weak the conference has been overall. To finalize the season, Nebraska will take on Wisconsin for the Big Ten title.
For the third straight year Wisconsin has another shot at winning the conference title but does so with a much weaker team than the last two seasons.
On the other side of the field, Nebraska has the talent and depth to win, but it will come down to if the Huskers can play at their best, unlike their game against Iowa.
No. 4: Florida State vs Georgia Tech (ACC)
3 of 6This appears to be a one-sided game. In the ACC title game, Florida State is taking on Georgia Tech, and it should be over relatively quickly.
The Seminoles have a ton of depth and talent on both sides of the ball, and it is going to be too much for the Yellow Jackets to handle in this ACC title game.
Unless Georgia Tech can get the running game rolling, this game will be over early in the second half.
No. 3: Northern Illinois vs Kent State (MAC)
4 of 6Last year Northern Illinois and Ohio gave people a great game to watch in the MAC championship, and viewers should expect the same out of the game between the Huskies and Kent State this week.
Both teams have extremely explosive offenses and have the ability to put up a lot of points. It will be interesting to see if the experience that the Huskies gained last year will help put them over the top against the Golden Flashes.
No. 2: UCLA vs Stanford (Pac-12)
5 of 6This matchup may seem familiar because these two teams just met in Southern California this past weekend.
In the game, Stanford knew it needed to win to take the Pac-12 North while UCLA already had a spot sewn up in the conference title game.
This week's game will take place at Stanford, and while the Cardinal dominated the first game, the Bruins will not be holding back and we will get a better sense to how these teams stack up against each other.
No. 1: Alabama vs Georgia (SEC)
6 of 6The SEC title game has the biggest meaning and impact of all the conference title games. The winner of this game will punch its ticket to the national title game to take on Notre Dame.
While both teams deserve to be in this game, it would be hard to argue that Alabama didn't have the tougher path to the conference title game.
The key matchup will be the Alabama defense versus the Georgia offense, a matchup that likely favors the Tide.
