World Football Gossip Roundup: Wayne Rooney, Gareth Bale, Rio Ferdinand

Sam TigheJun 7, 2018

Bleacher Report's last edition of the World Football Gossip Roundup for this week is a tasty one.

It seems the best way to cure a Russian heartache is to spend a significant amount of money, but Wayne Rooney isn't the only Manchester United player under the microscope.

We've got developments on a certain SPL player along with the latest Manchester City drama too.

Real Madrid in for Gareth Bale?

1 of 5

According to talkSPORT, Jose Mourinho is looking to bring Gareth Bale to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Apparently, the partnership both clubs signed up for on completion of the Luka Modric saga gives Real Madrid a first option on "certain players," but the Welsh winger has no intention of forcing a move through.

Perhaps it was Harry Redknapp's endearing words that did the trick?

Anzhi Makhachkala Want Wayne Rooney

2 of 5

Sir Alex Ferguson could be up for another fight to keep his strikers soon because Anzhi Makhachkala have expressed their interest in Wayne Rooney (via The Sun).

Director Roberto Carlos is quoted as saying:

"

Why not? He’s one of the best players in the world and any team would be happy to have him in their squad. He’s still a very young player.

Of course, I could not say when and if it will happen. It’s not only Anzhi who want to buy him. There are plenty of teams in Italy and Spain, all over the world, eager to have a player like Rooney.

"

The likelihood of the English international partnering Samuel Eto'o in Dagestan is pretty remote, to be honest.

Roberto Mancini Under Fire

3 of 5

The latest episode of Roberto Mancini vs. life details his struggles to contain a dressing-room mutiny, according to the Daily Star.

The Italian tinkerer has been confusing his team all year with wild switches between 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2 and 3-5-2. The players are fed up.

Per a City source:

"

Put simply, the manager has lost one half of the dressing room. There are those who buy into what he is trying to do with the formations and tactics and those who don’t, but no-one agrees with his man-management technique.

Rio Ferdinand Phone Home

4 of 5

Sam Allardyce hasn't had his fill of overachieving in the transfer market just yet. He looks set to try to ply Rio Ferdinand from Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.

The defender is in the last year of his current deal at Old Trafford, and Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to significantly slash his wages. West Ham and Allardyce have expressed their interest in advance:

"

If it’s at the end of the season and he hasn’t got a new contract and he is released by Manchester United, then we would be interested.

If he wants to live back in London eventually, which is where he comes from, which you know quite a few players want to do when they come to the end of their careers, that is an advantage for us.

It depends entirely on Rio or which other clubs might be interested in him.

"

Victor Wanyama Wants Out?

5 of 5

Shifting focus slightly, English Premier League clubs will be delighted to hear that Victor Wanyama is in the midst of a contract feud with Celtic (via BBC Sport).

"Victor informed Celtic the contract offer fell short of his expectations," his agent Rob Moore informed STV.

"There were a number of aspects that fell shorthe turned it down."

The Bhoys were hoping to improve the Kenyan's terms in order to keep him around.
