Injured Anorthosis FC Player Hit With Explosive During Match vs. Omonia Nicosia
A soccer match in Cyprus between Anorthosis and Omonia Nicosia took a frightening turn on Sunday when a spectator tossed an explosive onto the field at an injured player in the second half.
The game was supposed to be about a second-place Anorthosis team and a sixth-place Omonia squad, but as you can see, things took a more dramatic direction.
Watching the video, you can see the player being tended to before smoke suddenly appears on the screen. After that, the loud bang knocks the medical staff and player backward as they cover their ears and shield their faces.

If nothing else, the blast had to be loud enough to leave some eardrums ringing.
Brooks Peck of Yahoo! Sports had this to say about the situation:
"There seemed to be some debate as to whether the original player receiving treatment was faking and maybe the explosive was some sort of test for that. Luckily, the result of the explosion appeared to be more terror than physical harm.
"
Hopefully, the scene will ultimately prove to be more scary than anything. No one appears to be seriously injured based on the footage shown above, aside from the typical scare associated with something such as this.
No matter how crazy a match can be, no one can, or should, expect something like this to happen. Fans are there to watch the match play itself out, and the players are there to compete.
Throwing an explosive directly at any player, let alone an injured player like Peck suggests the fan did, is crazy and unthinkable.
There's no mention as to whether the fan was grabbed by security, but serious measures should be taken. Events like this, even if no one is physically injured, must be taken very seriously in an arena filled with people.
