Week 2 NFL Predictions: Quick Picks for Every Game of the Weekend
Week 2 will surely be exciting.
This slate of games features plenty of inter-conference matchups that will surely have an effect on the playoff race down the stretch.
There are also some cross-conference matchups such as the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots. Both won in Week 1 and the Cardinals enter with an improved defense to slow down Tom Brady and Co.
So in order to find winners, let's get to it and check out some quick picks for the NFL's second week.
K.C.-Buffalo, Cleveland-Cincinnati, Minnesota-Indianapolis, New Orleans-Carolina
1 of 4Chiefs at Bills
Each team has an improved defense but Kansas City presents the more balanced offense. K.C. also has the better rush defense and more proven playmakers in the secondary.
Chiefs over Bills
Browns at Bengals
This will be a low-scoring affair as Cleveland and Cincinnati both field excellent defenses. So, the difference will come down to which offense executes more and turns the ball over less.
Bengals over Browns
Vikings at Colts
These teams are eerily similar from an overall perspective, but the big advantage is running the ball. Last week Adrian Peterson faced a tough Jacksonville defense and the Colts aren't on that level just yet.
Vikings over Colts
Saints at Panthers
A potentially high-scoring game, New Orleans and Carolina is a huge divisional game in Week 2. That said, the better defense comes out on top because slowing the opposition down will be key.
Panthers over Saints
Houston-Jacksonville, Oakland-Miami, Arizona-New England, Tampa Bay-NY Giants
2 of 4Texans at Jaguars
Another crucial division game, Houston and Jacksonville square off with top defenses and balanced offenses. The Texans, however, are more explosive in the passing game and also get more consistent quarterback pressure.
Texans over Jaguars
Raiders at Dolphins
Both teams desperately need a win here. Well, Oakland has the better defense, albeit red zone defense and the Dolphins failed to move the ball last week. Darren McFadden is the difference and the Raiders take one from the Dolphins.
Raiders over Dolphins
Cardinals at Patriots
The Arizona Cardinals defense is certainly capable of limiting New England's offense. On the contrary, Bill Belichick's defensive front seven will cause the Card's offensive line problems all day.
Patriots over Cardinals
Buccaneers at Giants
Tampa Bay has a better overall team than given credit for and the Giants have much to prove after getting soundly beaten by Dallas in Week 1. This winner has more success on the ground, though, because each defense will get quarterback pressure and slow down the passing game.
Buccaneers over Giants
Baltimore-Philadelphia, Washington-St. Louis, Dallas-Seattle, NY Jets-Pittsburgh
3 of 4Ravens at Eagles
For as much as the Eagles produced at Cleveland, turning the ball over will cost them even more against Baltimore. The Ravens have another elite defense and until Philadelphia starts games better, Baltimore has it from the kickoff.
Ravens over Eagles
Redskins at Rams
The St. Louis Rams are certainly improved after taking the Detroit Lions down to the wire. However, Washington won't turn the ball over as much and the Redskins have a better ground game. In addition, the Redskins defense applies more quarterback pressure to force turnovers.
Redskins over Rams
Cowboys at Seahawks
Rookie Russell Wilson faces another stud front seven in the Dallas Cowboys. And Big D is even better as DeMarcus Ware comes off the edge. With an improved secondary behind him, Dallas shuts down Seattle's offense and Tony Romo controls the tempo throughout.
Cowboys over Seahawks
Jets at Steelers
This is a statement game for both teams. The Jets got a huge win over Buffalo and the Steelers must respond back after Peyton Manning diced them up. New York features the slightly better ground game right now and Mark Sanchez's pass protection has vehemently improved. Until Ben Roethlisberger gets more consistent pocket protection, Pittsburgh's offense doesn't move the ball consistently.
Jets over Steelers
Tennessee-San Diego, Detroit-San Francisco, Denver-Atlanta
4 of 4Titans at Chargers
Once again the Tennessee Titans face a tough defense. And as elite as Chris Johnson is, he won't see much success against the Chargers front seven. San Diego also presents a better offense and rolls in Week 2.
Chargers over Titans
Lions at 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers line up against another explosive offense. The good news, though, is that Detroit isn't as balanced as the Packers and Matthew Stafford can be interception prone at times. As long as Alex Smith keep the 'Niners offense balanced, San Francisco cruises over the Lions.
49ers over Lions
Broncos at Falcons
This game looks to be Peyton Manning versus Matt Ryan, but it will be quite the contrary. The Broncos and Falcons have significantly better defenses than in 2011 and are capable of accumulating coverage sacks and forcing multiple turnovers. In short, the winner produces more on the ground and possesses the better kicking game.
