Bo Pelini: Nebraska Head Coach Leaves Game in Ambulance Due to Illness

Jun 1, 2018

The Nebraska Cornhuskers received some scary news Saturday as head coach Bo Pelini was forced to leave the sidelines of his team’s meeting with Arkansas State due to an illness, according to Husker Sports Network host Jeff Culhane.

"

Jamrog said nothing serious with Bo, docs taking precautionary measures, but still in locker room as we speak #huskers

— Jeff Culhane (@jeffculhane) Sept. 15, 2012"

ESPN is reporting that Pelini has been transported from the stadium via ambulance to a local hospital.

This is good news for Pelini and the Huskers who will begin their Big Ten play in two weeks against Wisconsin.

UPDATE: Saturday, September 15, 3:59 p.m. ET by Donald Wood

The Nebraska Cornhuskers official Twitter updates Pelini’s status straight from the head coach himself:

"

Statement from Bo Pelini - Everything is fine, precautionary tests. Proud of our team and I'll be back at work tomorrow

— Nebraska Huskers (@Huskers) September 15, 2012"

After reports of being transported to a local hospital via ambulance, the news that Pelini is fine and he would be back to work tomorrow is a great sign.

While it is still unclear what the medical issue was, the fact that the head coach is already on the mend has Cornhuskers very thankful.

Pelini had been feeling ill before the game, but told HuskerOnline.com's Sean Callahan that he was fine for the team's meeting with the Red Wolves.

NBC's CollegeFootballTalk is reporting that "A team trainer was taking Pelini's pulse on the sideline in the first half" before heading into the locker room.

In his absence, it is being reported that defensive coordinator John Papuchis has taken the helm while Pelini is not on the sidelines.

This news comes the week after the Cornhuskers lost to No. 22 UCLA and were trying to make a statement against a much easier Arkansas State team.

If Pelini can get healthy, the Huskers should consider themselves lucky after winning 42-13 against Arkansas State.
