College Football Rankings 2012 Week 3: AP Top 25 Teams That Impressed in Week 2

Patrick ClarkeSep 10, 2012

Although the second week of the college football season was highlighted by a number of upsets, there were a handful of programs that impressed as well.

While Alabama and USC continued to roll at the top of the AP Top 25, some other teams in the hunt for the BCS National Championship came through in big ways in Week 2 as well.

Let's look at the Top-25 teams that impressed the most this past weekend.

No. 3 LSU

The Bayou Bengals looked terrifying in their first real test of the season against the Pac-12's Washington Huskies.

After surrendering the first points of the game to the Huskies on a field goal, LSU scored 41 unanswered to win by 38 points at home.

The Tigers held the Huskies to just 183 total yards, including just 26 yards rushing. Meanwhile, LSU's three-headed monster at running back wore down Washington, racking up 242 yards on the ground for the game.

Although some will continue to make the case for why USC should be No. 2, I can easily counter for LSU. This defense looked outright frightening on Saturday in Baton Rouge.

No. 15 Kansas State

I must admit that I actually picked the Miami Hurricanes to upset Kansas State, but I digress.

The Wildcats looked like a potential BCS crasher against the Hurricanes, scoring at least one touchdown in every quarter to erase any chance of a Miami upset bid.

Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein was spectacular throughout the game, throwing and rushing for big yards and four scores. Klein's Wildcats actually led 52-6 deep into the fourth quarter before a late Hurricanes touchdown.

Boasting the nation's sixth-best rushing attack and eighth-best scoring offense, Kansas State looks impressive through the season's first two weeks.

No. 18 Florida

I have to admit, I learned more about Will Muschamp's Florida Gators on Saturday than I did about any other team in college football.

Trailing Texas A&M 17-10 on the road at halftime, the Gators rallied on both sides of the ball in the final two quarters, outscoring the Aggies 10-0 in the second half to win their first conference game of the season.

Florida clamped down defensively and ultimately won a game it looked like it had no business winning at times. The schedule only gets tougher for the Gators from here on out, though, so Week 2's mighty road win was vital.
