LeBron X Shoe: Nike Disputes 'Wall Street Journal' $300 Price Tag Report
Nike has disputed The Wall Street Journal's recent report that the LeBron X shoe will cost an excess of $300 when it is released this fall.
Here is what Nike spokesman Brian Strong had to say per ESPN's Darren Rovell on Tuesday:
""The LeBron X will be launched in the fall at a suggested retail price of $180," Strong said, in a statement. "The initial introduction of the LeBron X will be the red, white and blue Nike+ enabled version and that price is still being set, but will be at a higher price to reflect the Nike+ technology embedded in the shoes."
"
Although The Wall Street Journal has a reputation of catering to a more well-off group of readers than the traditional news journal, it seems that they really got this one wrong.
Who would be content to spend $300 for a pair of basketball shoes anyway?
Don't get me wrong, I love a new pair of Nikes as much as the next guy, but in these difficult economic times the last thing we should be worried about is having technology in our shoes.
Unless that technology will turn me into an NBA MVP, of course.
The $180 price point sounds a lot more reasonable for the standard version of the shoe, and it's no surprise that Nike came out and set the record straight.
The Wall Street Journal's initial report was a mighty turn off to Nike fans and potential consumers.
Fans of LeBron James and Nike shoes deserve to know the truth, and now they have it.
