The Nike LeBron X Would Be a Nice-Looking $300 Mistake

What is the most money you have ever paid for shoes? Not the $300 that Nike wants us to pay for LeBron James’ new shoe, the LeBron X.

For me, I can remember it like it was yesterday, they were the Ken Griffey Jr. cross-trainers by Nike. They were the emerald green and black colors of the Seattle Mariners. At the time the shoes were over $125, and I loved them dearly.

I played basketball in them almost daily in order to “break them in” and to be honest, they felt fantastic.

At the time I was 19 years old. That was before other adult responsibilities were a daily part of my life. Paying $125 for sneakers was almost unheard of for me back then. I actually went on to do it a few other times. The last time was when I purchased a pair of Jason Kidd Nikes that hurt like hell.

Never again!

Fast-forward to 18 years later. I find myself shoe shopping and completely alarmed once I begin to see the price for sneakers nowadays.

Reading the price for a shoe in particular, in fact it was the same shoe that I purchased for $125, I was taken aback. The shoe sells for $139.99.

I understand the purpose of nostalgia but the price gouging is ridiculous. We needed to have treated our “nice” pair of shoes from the past as if they were our favorite baseball card collection. I should never have given my cousin those shoes!

Now there is a report that the one version of the new Nike LeBron X shoe will be priced at close to $290. In fact some reports had a retail price listed at $315.

So much for the recession, ladies and gentlemen, because Nike has a new shoe that many people are guaranteed to buy.

There are some details about what the shoe can do for you that are pretty cool actually.

The shoe will be equipped with motion sensors that will keep track of how high a person leaps, among other things.

That will work just fine for high school basketball players who come from a household that can afford them. Or, the college basketball player that has aspirations of going professional. Beyond that, not many true reasons to purchase these shoes.

The Nike LeBron X shoe looks nice in photographs but is a nice-looking shoe attractive because of its style or its price? You can purchase a pair of $290 or $315 pair of shoes and become the talk amongst your friends.

Once you get those shoes scuffed up or stepped on, you will be angry. I guarantee it, just like I was when my nice-looking pair of Ken Griffey Jr. shoes was scuffed up while I was attempting a lay-up.

Although I made the lay-up, the person who was guarding me quickly reminded me that nobody cares about my nice-looking shoes.

After that day, I never looked at those shoes the same way. I thought that they were just another pair of shoes. Now as I look at the insane price of the Nike LeBron X, I know that there will be a kid that will suffer the same indignity as I did 19 years ago.

In the end, it will be a complete waste of $300.
