Todd Hoffner, 46, was booked into the Blue Earth County Jail Tuesday for requested charges related to using minors in a sexual performance and possession of child pornography, said Capt. Rich Murry of the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Department.

"

This is just hard to digest. It is important to remember that nothing has been proven in this case and we are clearly in just the "allegation" stage, but this is all heading down a path that I'm sure most of us were hoping we wouldn't have to tread.

There is no end to the madness of this world.

------- end of update --------

Hoffner was booked into Blue Earth County Jail on Tuesday afternoon after being escorted off the practice field last Friday. He has been placed on administrative leave.

The D-II Minnesota State Mavericks went 9-3 last season in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, going 6-0 in the South division in an impressive campaign.

This is certainly not the kind of press any football program wants heading into the season.

Minnesota State racked up 31.8 points per game last season, averaging 167.9 rushing yards per game and 25 rushing touchdowns. The team did this while holding opponents to 19.0 points per game and severely limiting the opposing passing game. The Mavericks scored 18 more touchdowns than its opponents in 2011-2012, generally building a big lead in the first three quarters before coasting to victories.

There are sure to be plenty of details to emerge regarding Todd Hoffner and the case moving forward, which is unfortunate given the university's strong football campaign last season. Cases such as this can prove to be disruptions not only for the football program and school, but the community in general.

It's going to be interesting what happens at Mankato, as the city of only approximately 40,000 residents holds its breath.
