Giovani Dos Santos: Sevilla the Best Option for Mexican Star

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoMay 31, 2018

Will Giovani Dos Santos leave Tottenham Hotspur for Sevilla before the closing of the transfer window? According to his lawyer, Vicente Montes (in an article by Kilian Caballero of Goal), Sevilla is expressing an interest in the Mexican midfielder.

Montes stated that he is not looking to extend his client's contract with the Spurs. He talked about an attempt to find a solution for the parties involved, including Spurs, who want to sell Dos Santos

The idea of Tottenham selling Dos Santos to another club is a great one, as it made a mistake in signing him from FC Barcelona in the first place.

Let us delve into what transpired with Dos Santos and Tottenham in order to obtain the reasons for such a move.

Tottenham Hotspur

Since Dos Santos arrived at White Hart Lane in 2008, he has not played in most of Tottenham's matches. According to ESPN Soccernet, Dos Santos was loaned to Ipswich Town in the Football League Championship, Galatasaray (Turkey), and Racing Santander (La Liga).

One of the reasons for Dos Santos not receiving much playing time with Spurs is that he suffered multiple injuries. On the other hand, there are other possible reasons why Dos Santos did not have enough play time in north London.

An article written by Eric Gomez for Goal reveals the less than cordial relationship between Dos Santos and Harry Redknapp, the Lilywhites' former manager. The same article made a similar revelation about the relationship between Dos Santos and Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy.

The relationship between Dos Santos and new coach Andre Villas-Boas has not gotten off to a good start either, after Dos Santos publicly expressed his desire to leave Spurs.

Dos Santos was either sent to other clubs on loan or played for the Mexican national team, making just 30 appearances for Spurs in four years.

Mexico

Dos Santos represented Mexico in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup and was the recipient of the Most Valuable Player Award for the tournament.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup was another event where Dos Santos shined for his country's national football team. He started all of the matches of the World Cup for his country.

Dos Santos represented Mexico in the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London, England. What about the other clubs?

Racing Santander

During an interview with FIFA, Dos Santos expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to play for Racing Santander as there were no chances to play at White Hart Lane.

Ipswich Town and Galatasaray

Dos Santos scored a penalty in a local derby between Ipswich and Norwich in 2009. I have been unable to obtain much information about Dos Santos' stint in Galatasaray except that the reaction towards him in Turkey was mixed.

Conclusion

It is hoped that Dos Santos can find a way to move to Sevilla or another club that will give him opportunities. The sooner the better.
