David Beckham: Soccer Star's Important Role in Opening Ceremony Is Well Deserved
David Beckham has been a superstar in Great Britain for quite some time now, so it comes as no surprise that the soccer star found himself with a very important role at the opening ceremony for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Erik Malinowski of Deadspin tweeted a picture of Beckham driving a speed boat carrying the Olympic torch used to light the Cauldron into the stadium, signifying the start of the London Games.

Beckham looked quite sharp in his suit as he sped into the Olympic stadium with the torch bearer riding shotgun. He was greeted by a loud roar from the stadium crowd that could have humbled even the biggest superstar.
There's no doubt the people love them some Beckham.
It seems only fitting that Beckham had an important role in the start of the London Games.
Having the responsibility of bringing the Olympic torch into the stadium is no small task and Beckham being graced with that honor is well deserved.
After all, Beckham was instrumental in helping London win the bid for the 2012 Games and there are few stars in Great Britain, if any, that have had more influence and positive impact than he both on and off the soccer field.
Not to mention, he deserved to be treated better than being kicked to the curb in regard to his being left out of Great Britain's Olympic soccer squad.
Is this a payback to the soccer star after he was snubbed from Great Britain's Olympic team?
If so, that was a heck of a way to make up for it.
