Big Ten Football: OSU Coach Urban Meyer's Advice for Penn State's Bill O'Brien
Urban Meyer knows about adversity within the college football world.
While at Florida, he was criticized for the way he handled his players, particularly the star players.
However, in a recent ESPN article, Meyer defended his method of discipline and handling of adversity.
More recently, on The Big Ten Network's coverage of Big Ten Media Days, Meyer had some advice for Penn State coach Bill O'Brien, who is going through quite a bit of adversity himself.
Specifically, Meyer commented, "Coach O'Brien is about to find out who wants to be on his team. There are no more 'half-ins' anymore."
Even more specifically, Meyer was referring to Penn State players jumping ship, given the NCAA's recent ruling that Penn State (via ESPN) would receive a four-year bowl ban, loss of scholarships and that players would be able to transfer without any waiting period.
In fact, on the Mike and Mike radio show (via The Des Moines Register) O'Brien complained about multiple coaches contacting his players about transferring.
If players opt to jump ship, O'Brien will have more problems than the bowl ban and the loss of scholarships. He may have trouble finding enough players to take the field.
Welcome to football, Division III-style.
On the other hand, if O'Brien can still bring players in and ride out the storm, he could just lead Penn State back to prominence.
However, it will be a tough storm.
