Barcelona Transfer Rumors: Daniel Agger Won't Get Blaugrana Back on Top

A team as talented as Barcelona enters the transfer window with few actual on-pitch needs, but that doesn't mean they don't need something. 

When it comes to talent on the pitch, Barca is set. However, they could use a little shakeup to get back to the pinnacle of La Liga. 

So the following rumor that they are going after Liverpool's Daniel Agger is not a bad move, it is just not enough. 

The Guardian shared the rumor:

Barcelona, meanwhile, are refusing to meet Athletic Bilbao's valuation of Javi Martínez, so will turn their attentions instead to Daniel Agger of Liverpool, who will use the funds from that transfer to buy Javi Martínez from Athletic Bilbao.

Agger would be a quality addition. He is a physical defender with loads of top flight experience. He has appeared in 170 BPL matches and 49 international contests with Denmark. 

He will finally give them someone to fill the shoes of Carles Puyol as a ball-playing defender. In short, he would be a solid acquisition. 

However, they cannot be content to simply fill out their lineup. They need to make a move that shakes up the club, and consequently re-energizes it. 

This is a club that had won three-straight La Liga titles before staring up at Real Madrid last season. Making a major move will put all the players on notice that finishing second is not acceptable, and that will raise the collective intensity of the club, which will trickle down to offseason training and preparation and carry right into the season. 

This would be a bold move, that wouldn't be without its risks, but it is one that has become necessary.
