ACC Media Days 2012: Schedule, Live Stream, Participant List & More

Brian MaziqueJun 7, 2018

The ACC has two dark horse Heisman candidates but only one will be present for the conference's media day. Tajh Boyd of Clemson was not selected to represent Clemson at the annual event, however, Logan Thomas of Virginia Tech was.

Both of these quarterbacks enter their junior seasons with high expectations and substantial talent. Boyd has more weapons on offense, but Thomas is a big, athletic QB that was originally scouted as an H-Back.

Both are solid NFL prospects and two of the many stars the conference will showcase this season.

Every year the ACC brings us the Football Kickoff where the conference begins the hype for its best programs and conference in general.

This is also a place where preliminary Heisman campaigns can begin, as well as the exhilarating address from commissioner John Swofford.

Really, I'm kidding with my italicized sarcasm. Swofford could address conference expansion and other meaningful topics. News recently broke that Syracuse will be joining the ACC in 2013. Swofford will undoubtedly speak on that, and possibly other expansion opportunities.

There will be player and coach interviews and tons of hoopla. Here's how you can catch the coverage:

When: July 22-23, 12:30 - 6 p.m. ET

Where: The Grandover Resort, Greensboro, N.C.

What to Watch For

Eye of the Storm

The Hurricanes will be looking to push forward from a troublesome year in 2011. The program was rocked by scandal and under-achieved through most of Jacory Harris' tenure at QB.

Will Stephen Morris or Ryan Williams take the reigns at QB?

Morris had back surgery prior to spring practice, and that may have caused some concerns. But he is said to be ahead of schedule and he'll be ready for the opening of the season.

It would have been nice to see a QB represent the school at media day. But with no clear starter, the Canes aren't giving any early indications as to who has the upper-hand.

Coach Speak

Al Golden will definitely be one of the most sought after people when coaches interviews begin on Monday. The media will pepper him with questions about the scandal, the recently dismissed Ray Ray Armstrong and his QB situation.

But some of the coaches will hold court because of their legendary status. One example is Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer.

Beamer has been the head coach for the Hokies since 1987 and he will always garner a good amount of attention.

Here's Beamer from ACC Media Day 2010:

Player Speak

I'll be eager to hear Beamer's stud QB, Thomas, speak. It's great that the team's leader and quarterback is representing the team at media day.

Thomas could have a huge year and this is great exposure for him.

If he and the Hokies get off to a fast start, you may start to hear his name mentioned as a Heisman sleeper.

It should be an interesting event and one diehard ACC fans won't want to miss.
