Picking a Manchester City Starting XI to Include Robin Van Persie
Where oh where will Robin van Persie go? That is a question that we all continue to ponder in the world of football at the moment. As the summer transfer window hits its halfway mark there have already been some major blockbuster deals go down.
However, the one that we all continue to await with baited breath is Arsenal's sale of star striker and club captain, Robin Van Persie.
The English Premier League Golden Boot winner has made it clear as mud about what he really wants, and Arsenal fans the world over don't know what to expect.
But, while one set of fans have their heads in their hands in despair and frustration, another set of fans up North in Manchester have their hands raised in hope that the Arsenal captain will leave the Emirates for the Etihad.
The latest rumors from The Sun and the Daily Mail have it known that Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus are all out to get the talented Dutch marksman.
However, with the deepest pockets in the English Premier League, Manchester City are still favored to get their man, and if they do, here is a potential lineup to include the clubs impending new forward.
GK: Joe Hart
1 of 11Joe Hart had a phenomenal season for Manchester City in 2011-12, named to the PFA Team of the Year, as well as awarded the Barclay's Golden Glove.
There is no question to Hart's place in the lineup; there honestly is not a player more safe on the squad.
RB: Micah Richards
2 of 11Micah Richards was a permanent first team player until the last five matches of the season.
The versatile 24-year-old is all class and is only getting better and the right side of the defense is sure to be his once more.
RCB: Vincent Kompany
3 of 11Club captain Vincent Kompany was a huge part of the club's success in the past season and his leadership and rock solid play at the back will continue to be important as the club looks to push forward their chances in the coming UEFA Champions League season.
LCB: Joleon Lescott
4 of 11Joleon Lescott is one of the veteran's of the Mancehster City lineup. His leadership by example and experience will go a long way in keeping the club on track in the coming season.
LB: Gael Clichy
5 of 11Gael Clichy came in from Arsenal and quickly made the left-back spot his own.
With the talent to be both defensive minded and attacking minded, Clichy is the perfect combination to help keep the left flank a strength on both sides of the ball.
CDM: Gareth Barry
6 of 11The oldest player in City's first 11, 31-year-old holding midfielder, Gareth Barry has been a solid addition that only gets better for the the club.
With the attacking mindset that City has developed, Barry has been a welcomed presence in the midfield since his arrival from Aston Villa two seasons prior.
CM: Yaya Toure
7 of 11Ivory Coast international midfielder Yaya Toure is nothing short of masterful in the middle of the park when he is on his game. He is certainly to be a big help in support of Robin van Persie if given the chance.
RM: David Silva
8 of 11Spanish midfielder and winger, David Silva, wrapped up the award for most assists in the English Premier League last season with 15 and is tipped to be just as good this season.
As long as he is fully rested after the summer UEFA European Championship winning campaign with Spain, he should slot right back in as one of the most dangerous playmakers in the EPL.
LM: Samir Nasri
9 of 11Talented French international attacking midfielder Samir Nasri not only has the ability to drift out wide to create space, but he has the instinct to cut back inside when the moment is right.
On top of it all, he is a past teammate of Robin van Persie and would already be set up to work well with the Dutch forward.
CF: Robin van Persie
10 of 11Robin van Persie would be an amazing addition to the Manchester City lineup. Not only can he carry the team as an out-and-out striker to lead the line, he also has the ability to drop back and create.
For that reason I see the No. 10 playing in the the position he took his number from.
As a center forward behind Sergio Aguero, van Persie would be allowed to push up as a strike partner, but also allowed to be dropped back and create in the midfield with Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri and David Silva.
Van Persie's ability to pick the right pass, as well as his nose for goal would make him extremely dangerous and beneficial for the Manchester City first team.
His striking ability is likely to always draw defenders to him out of fear. That should allow more space for the likes of Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko, Mario Balotelli or whomever is partnered with the Dutchman upfront, if he makes the move to the Etihad.
ST: Sergio Aguero
11 of 11Sergio Aguero is the first-choice striker at Manchester City. His goal haul in his first season in England alone should solidify that fact, but his ability to create more with his feet makes him even more important.
With the group of Toure, Nasri, Silva and RvP in support of him, Kun Aguero could possibly become the best striker in the English Premier League next season.
