Longhorns News

The Longhorns will retire Kevin Durantโ€™s jersey during the Texas Tech game Feb. 25.

Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster has hired ex-Longhorn Richard Hightower as receivers coach:

"Hightower was a walk-on who eventually earned a scholarship at the University of Texas from 1999-2002, while Brewster was an assistant coach there. Hightower played defensive back, wide receiver, and on special teams for the Longhorns, appearing in 33 games.

โ€œ'Heโ€™s a tremendous character guy, a work ethic guy,' Brewster said. 'He has a tremendous personality. Heโ€™s going to be an outstanding coach and recruiter.'"

Longhorn legend Noble Doss has passed away:

"Some University of Texas football fans still remember 'The Catch,' a play Noble Doss made in 1940 to stun heavily favored Texas A&M.

"Doss, meanwhile, never quite forgot the rare drop he had the next year when a No. 1-ranked Texas squad tied Baylor. Both plays had a dramatic impact on the Rose Bowl invitations handed out those years.

"Doss, who played for UT from 1939-41, died Sunday at 88. He still holds the career interception record for the Longhorns with 17, a mark tied by Nathan Vasher in 2003.

The Longhorns' loss to Texas A&M has Texas on the outside of the tournament bubble.
