Paris Saint-Germain Is Making Right Move Avoiding Robin Van Persie Chase
The Robin Van Persie saga has played out across the internet over the last few weeks. With Arsenal fans now left wondering how their club will deal with the situation, the transfer rumors regarding their captain went into overdrive. Any club with deep pockets was instantly linked with a move for the prolific scorer.
Trying to sort through the smoke regarding these rumors can be difficult.
This week, Carlo Ancelotti cleared up some of the smoke on the Paris Saint-Germain end of the rumors. Ancelotti stated PSG were not interested in making a move for Van Persie. This may come as a surprise to some who have been following the Parisian spending spree. In many ways, the decision to not enter the Robin Van Persie sweepstakes makes a lot of sense.

Paris Saint-Germain has addressed many of their attacking needs with the capture of Lavezzi. With Lavezzi joining Pastore, Nene, Menez and others, PSG have plenty of attacking options. Adding Van Persie to that mix would make it stronger, but it may not be the best addition.
PSG currently has several creative finishers. They are very similar in style of play to Van Persie. If PSG are to spend more money on strengthening the attack, a more predatory type striker is needed. Manchester United’s Berbatov is the type of player that would fit that mold for PSG. Having variation in attack is a must for unlocking defenses, especially in the further stages of Champions League play.
Another reason it is smart for PSG not to pursue Van Persie is that it will likely end up in a lost cause. Van Persie will be looking to join a club challenging for more than the Ligue 1 title. Wasting the time and resources trying to convince Robin to come where he has no interest in being is not how to spend your summer. If this was a few years down the road and the PSG plan had them challenging in Europe, then that might be more enticing to Van Persie.
Ancelotti and Leonardo know what they need most for their squad. At this time, I have to believe their main focus is on improving the defensive side of the squad. Make no mistake, Robin Van Persie is a great player and would be a welcome addition to any club in the world. I just do not think he would look good in Paris blue at this time.
