NCAA Football 13 Reviews: What Top Sites Are Saying About Hit Video Game

Mike ChiariJun 7, 2018

There always seems to be at least one or two sports video games that hit the market with a ton of hype behind them every year, and NCAA Football 13 certainly fits the bill. EA Sports' college football title has dominated the genre for the past several years and promises to continue doing so thanks to a mix of familiarity and new features.

For as much attention as Madden NFL Football receives on a yearly basis, EA Sports often outdoes it with NCAA Football, so it will be interesting to see if that is once again the case this year. Whatever the case, there is a lot to be excited about with regards to NCAA Football 13 and reviews across the Internet certainly reflect that.

Here are the main points from the most in-depth reviews of NCAA Football 13 by the web's most-respected gaming sites.

IGN

There is no question that IGN.com is the site that gamers often check first when looking for a game review. That is for good reason too as there is always a ton of great information to sift through. Greg Miller shared his thoughts regarding the game and he had a lot of praise and constructive criticism to offer.

The biggest improvement, according to Miller, is the overall gameplay. The passing game in general has taken a big step forward as there are 430 new catch animations, a new dropback system and receivers must now be looking for the ball to be thrown to.

With all of that said, Miller believes that the game is a bit too much like its predecessor as well. He is a big fan of the Heisman mode, which allows the player to use a former Heisman Trophy winner on any team for an entire season, but he doesn't believe the other modes have changed enough.

Road to Glory and Online Dynasty are largely the same as they always have been and that prompted Miller to grade the game solidly rather than spectacularly.

Game Informer

Like Miller, Matthew Kato of GameInformer.com has plenty of good things to say about the passing system, but he is a bit more positive about the game as an overall entity as well.

Kato's main point is that somebody who isn't familiar with the NCAA Football series may not notice the tangible improvements in this year's game compared to the past couple year, but for diehard fans who play it every year, the difference in gameplay is obvious and makes the game worthwhile.

Kato also believes that the Road to Glory and Online Dynasty modes could use some freshening up, but there is a new recruiting system that adds some spice to the dynasty mode in particular.

Overall, it seems like Kato believes there is still work to do in coming installments in order to make the NCAA Football series all it can be, but he believes this year's edition took some big steps and can be built upon moving forward.

Digital Chumps

Nathaniel Stevens of DigitalChumps.com had a lot of the same analysis as Miller and Kato to offer, but he had some additional opinions as well. Not surprisingly, Stevens is a big fan of the new passing system and believes that it makes the game's playability much better.

Something that he wishes would have been overhauled along with it, however, is the receiver AI. He believes that has been an issue throughout the series as receivers never break off and fight for the ball when it is thrown inaccurately.

One thing that Stevens really enjoys, though, is the integration of ESPN College Gameday into the game. ESPN's own Rece Davis acts as the host and the on-screen graphics are akin to ESPN's, so it makes the entire experience feel more realistic.

Stevens doesn't believe that the game improved at the same rate as some of its predecessors, but he still considers NCAA Football 13 a success and a must-have title.
