Nike's The Opening: TV Info and More for Elite College Football Recruiting Event
Nike's The Opening is one of college football's most prestigious recruiting events, and this year, it's going to be jam-packed with some of the nation's best young football players and athletes.
Some of these recruits have already committed to a program, while others—including a few very elite prospects—are still searching for the right fit or waiting for that one offer.
The Opening is a place where recruits can make their names, improve their ratings and stand out among the best of the best. It's also a place where a recruit can be exposed among stronger and more talented individuals from across the nation, so there is a ton on the line for everybody who attends.
We may even get some commits, and that's what it's all about.
If you're a college football fan, this is an event that you have to tune in to. You can check out the latest stud recruit who has just committed to your favorite program, or if you're really into it, you can start breaking down the top competition going to your rival.
Here's all the info you need:
When: July 5-8
Where: Nike Headquarters. Beaverton, Ore.
Watch: ESPNU at 8 p.m. EST
Must-See Event: Nike 7On
For the average football fan who doesn't feel like watching drills or lineman hit each other in the trenches, 7-on-7's are the way to go.
This basically features only the skill players (QB, RBs, TEs, WRs) and it will be jam-packed with some of the best football of the summer, if not the best. Lining up 14 of the best offensive and defensive skill players in the college football recruiting scene can only lead to a great watch.
Other events include the Elite Lineman Challenge and the SPARQ (speed, power, agility, reactions and quickness) Rating National Championship.
Top Committed Prospects to Watch:
Max Browne, QB, USC Commit:
Browne is the No. 1-ranked quarterback and fifth overall ranked player in the 2013 class, according to Rivals.
He stands tall at 6'5'' and 202 pounds, which allows him to play strong in the pocket, scan the defensive backfield and throw brilliant passes. He does get good zip on the ball, but he's also incredibly accurate both in the pocket and out of the run.
He has the potential to be the next great college football quarterback
Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama Commit:
It's scary how good Foster can be. He's the No. 1-ranked linebacker and No. 2-ranked overall player in the nation, according to Rivals, and he appears as if he can live up to that hype.
He's quick, makes great reads, hits the hole like a truck and is a very fundamental tackler. He's going to really succeed at Alabama, so it will be fun to watch him compete here.
Top Non-Commited Prospects to Watch:
Ricky Seals-Jones, WR:
Seals-Jones is considered the best wideout in the nation, according to ESPN Recruiting Nation, and at 6'5'' and 220 pounds, they have good reasoning.
He's tall enough to go up and get the ball at its highest point, but he also possesses good speed to beat a corner to the deep zone.
Some notable offers have come from LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Texas, among others.
Vernon Hargreaves III, CB:
Hargreaves III is the No. 1-ranked corner and No. 9 overall player according to Rivals, and he's got a very long list of potential schools he could commit to.
He's got good size at 5'11'' and 185 pounds, and he uses that to his advantage. He's not afraid to explode up and play strong at the line of scrimmage, but he also displays good recognition skills and athleticism in coverage.
Notable offers for him have come from Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, USC and Oklahoma. That's just naming a few.
