NBA Draft 2012 Results: Projecting Rookie Impacts of Top 3 Picks

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

Anthony Davis is going to completely alter the way the New Orleans Hornets play from the first day he steps onto the court.

Of course, when you are taken No. 1 overall, this kind of impact is expected. It will be expected of all the players drafted in the top three. There is definitely going to be a learning curve with these guys, but they will all make their presences felt. Let's take a look at the kind of impacts you can expect from these supreme talents in their first years.

You can check out updated draft results here.

New Orleans Hornets, Anthony Davis, C, Kentucky

Davis is going to have no problem cracking this talentless frontcourt. The Hornets definitely needed his interior presence.

Davis instantly upgrades the Hornets defense. While Davis may struggle initially in the post against the stronger big men, he is going to make up for that with his athleticism.

Davis moves his feet well, and he has tremendous instincts. He is going to be a quality shot blocker and rebounder.

Offensively, Davis is going to have to continue to develop his post game to be a truly elite scorer, but he still has plenty of skills to be effective in the half court.

In the open floor, Davis is going to be deadly. He can outrun most big men, and he knows how to finish.

Projected Rookie Stats: 19.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.4 blocks

Charlotte Bobcats, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF, Kentucky

The Bobcats could have drafted any position, and they still would have been drafting for need. That freed them up to take the best player available, and I believe they did just that.

Kidd-Gilchrist will need to improve his jumper, and once he does that, he will be unstoppable on offense. He can put the ball on the floor and penetrate. He is also deadly in the open court.

MKG is an elite athlete, and he is not afraid to devote that athleticism to defense. He is an excellent wing defender.

He is also a solid rebounder for his position and is a constant threat to crash the offensive boards.

Projected Rookie Stats: 16.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists

Washington Wizards, Bradley Beal, SG, Florida

Bradley Beal is as well-rounded a player as there is in this draft class. He can shoot, drive, finish, pass and defend. He is also a solid rebounder for his position.

Beal will slide right into the Wizards lineup, and he will form a backcourt combination with John Wall that is going to be tough for any team to match up with.

Beal's shooting ability will make an instant impact. This will help open up things for Wall and their spacing all over the court.

He will also do a solid job defensively and help the Wizards push the tempo.

Projected Rookie Stats: 15.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists
