5 College Football Recruiting Classes That Could Knock off Michigan for No. 1
As we sit in the final week of June, Michigan has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country for 2013. It's an impressive group for Brady Hoke, as he has quality talent and is filling needs and doing an excellent job of stocking his roster with this class for the future.
However, the question is: Will Michigan finish No. 1 when it counts next? It's quite possible that Michigan goes bell-to-bell in the recruiting rankings, but it's also quite possible that another program surges and knocks off the Wolverines from the No. 1 spot.
Here are five programs Michigan needs to watch out for.
5. Georgia
1 of 5The Dawgs are barking all over the trail as they currently have 19 commitments, with four being inside the ESPNU 150.
They are working to get RB Derrick Henry back, but with talents like QB Brice Ramsey and ATH Tramel Terry, UGA is doing just fine on the trail.
Look for them to be in the thick of the Laremy Tunsil sweepstakes, work hard for Montravius Adams and use family connections to work on Matthew Thomas. With a surge like this, Georgia could be in the hunt to overtake Michigan's class.
4. Texas
2 of 5With 15 commitments and seven inside the ESPNU 150, Texas probably is just about done landing top-tier prospects. Their biggest priority right now is re-landing WR Ricky Seals-Jones.
The only other national name they could challenge for is Marcell Harris, as Texas routinely finishes up recruiting early.
So for the Longhorns to finish No. 1, they are going to have to reel RS-J back in and then tell everyone to basically sit down and evaluate their class head-to-head with Michigan's.
Which could provide a No. 1 victory.
3. USC
3 of 5The Trojans likely will only sign between 15 and 18 prospects total for this class. However, they are the epitome of quality for this cycle, as eight of their 10 commitments are inside the ESPNU 150.
Like I said, they're getting great quality.
USC has remaining targets like DB Tahaan Goodman, WR Laquon Treadwell, DT Eddie Vanderdoes, DB Priest Willis, LB Michael Hutchings, OT Nico Falah, CB Johnny Johnson and S Max Redfield.
Looks like that 80 percent ESPNU 150 rate could actually increase before next February.
2. Florida
4 of 5The Gators' current class is made up of 18 players, including DT Caleb Brantley, LB Daniel McMillian and RB Kelvin Taylor.
Seven total commitments are inside the ESPNU 150, and more could be on the way. OT Laremy Tunsil, DT Montravius Adams, CB Vernon Hargreaves III, WR Stacy Coley and WR Marquez North are looking at Gainesville as the place to play.
With a couple more top-tier prospects added, Florida could end up with the top class in the country.
1. Alabama
5 of 5'Bama is the defending BCS champion and the defending recruiting champion. They currently have 18 commitments, with seven inside the ESPNU 150.
Led by No. 2 overall prospect Reuben Foster, the Tide are dominating on the trail yet again. However, it's the big-name prospects that they are still in the running for that have them No. 1 on this list.
DT Montravius Adams, OT Laremy Tunsil, WR Robert Foster, OLB Matthew Thomas, DE Tim Williams, RB Derrick Henry, DB Vonn Bell, TE Hunter Henry, DE DeMarcus Walker, WR Jordan Cunningham, OG Tyrone Crowder and RB Alvin Kamara are all considering Alabama seriously.
Those are all some big-name, high-profile recruits. If landed, they would push any class up in the rankings.
Like, say, all the way to No. 1.
