USC Football Recruiting: Profiling the Trojans' Five-Star Commitments

Edwin WeathersbyJun 20, 2012

According to Scout.com, USC has five commitments from prospects rated as 5-star recruits. The Trojans have nine commits all together, but with five being 5-star recruits, that's an amazing haul.

For this read, I'm just going to give you a quick breakdown and profile of each 5-star Trojan commit. Lane Kiffin is doing it big on the trail this yer and these five recruits could be the future of Trojan football.

Fight on to read this!

5. Justin Davis, RB

1 of 5

Davis is the top running back in California, as he rushed for over 2600 yards and 39 TDs as a junior. He's a 6'0", 200-pounder from Stockton, California who plays for Lincoln High School.

Davis has solid vision, can flash patience in his running style and is a good one-cut, zone runner. He can pick and slide at times, be decisive with the ball and has a solid burst to and through holes.

He's elusive in the open field, has great instincts with the ball and above-average speed. He won't wow you with blazing skate ability, but he's a balanced and pure runner.

4. Ty Isaac, RB

2 of 5

Isaac rushed for 516 yards and six TDs as a junior...

In the Illinois state championship game.

For his junior season he rushed for 2114 and 45 TDs.

A 6'2", 220-pounder, Isaac is a lengthy rock toter with great speed, elusiveness and quickness. He runs with solid strength, but it's his athleticism, vision, instinct and burst that make him such a dynamic prospect with great mystique.

Tack on the notion that Isaac has excellent hands and can run routes as a WR, you see why this guy has a chance to become an all-around superstar at USC.

3. Su'a Cravens, S

3 of 5

From Murrieta in Southern California, Cravens is a 6'1", 205-pounder who probably is the best all-around football player among the Trojans' five-star commitments.

He can factor as an FS, SS, OLB, RB and WR. In fact, Cravens is so athletically gifted that he could hold his own as a CB.

Yet, it appears he'll be a safety at USC, where his speed, range, hitting ability, excellent instincts, quick ball-locating ability and amazing athleticism will make him a standout for USC.

2. Kenny Bigelow, DT

4 of 5

Bigelow is from Delaware and had 15 sacks as a junior, but will play his senior season in Maryland this year. He committed to USC as a junior last November and is a terror in the trenches.

At 6'3", 297 pounds, he has excellent snap quickness, is big and strong at the point of attack, shows quick hands and shedding skills to escape blocks and get free.

Bigelow can even play strong-side DE, but I think he is best a three-technique DT. He competes at a high level and should be a warlord in Sedrick Ellis mold in Troy.

1. Max Browne, QB

5 of 5

Browne is from the Seattle area and is from the same high school that produced Jake Heaps. He's a superior prospect to Heaps at this stage and could be better than Heaps right now.

He threw for 4034 yards and 45 TDs as a junior.

At 6'5", 215 pounds, Browne has excellent mechanics, as he shows good balance in the pocket, a super quick release and stroke, and a solid arm to make all the throws.

He's excellent in anticipating and leads his targets to "throw them open" very well. Browne shows great pocket presence and very good accuracy. He also can change speeds on the ball and is excellent at pre-snap reads.

On track to graduate early, Browne will compete for the starting QB job as a true freshman next year.
