NBA Social Media Awards 2012: Predicting Winners in Each Category
The inaugural NBA Social Media Award show is coming up, but fans can continue to vote and view all of the nominees over at the NBA’s official website.
It should be a fun event to watch during a night when no basketball will be on due to a break in the Finals action. There are plenty of hilarious and interesting awards ready to be given out, so let’s take a look at who might take home some social media hardware.
Social Slam Award
This award is handed out to the dunk that blew up on social media and Blake Griffin absolutely deserves it. He even got fellow nominee LeBron James to say that it was the Dunk of the Year and that his own slam over John Lucas III should be No. 2.
Predicted Winner – The Boss
“Got Game” Award
King James’ dunk over Lucas was surely epic and it’s rarely ever seen during a game. The MVP ended up catching an alley-oop after clearing the Bulls’ PG. While it’s not as insane as Vince Carter’s jam over Frederic Weis, it’s one of the best.
Predicted Winner – Over the Top
Snap Shot Award
Jeremy Lin was a social media hit this season on every imaginable platform. A testament to that popularity is the fact that a photo of the couch he was sleeping on in NYC ended up trending for quite a while.
Predicted Winner – Lin Photo/Landry Fields
"LOL" Award
There are bad layups and then there is the one Nick Young attempted on a fast break when he was a member of the Wizards. This SG easily could have dunked but ended up tossing the ball completely over the backboard.
Predicted Winner – Worst. Layup. Ever
Epic Award
As previously mentioned, Lin was a social media star in 2012. This 38-point outburst in a nationally televised game against the Lakers was the true beginning of Linsanity.
Predicted Winner – Linsanity Begins
