College Football Recruiting 2013: Power Ranking Top Undecided QBs
We know where Max Browne, Tyrone Swoopes, Shane Morris, Cooper Bateman, J.T. Barrett and other big name quarterbacks in the 2013 recruiting class plan on playing college ball. In fact, in most cases we have known for a quite while.
But there are seven-and-a-half months and full senior seasons still to go before National Signing Day even arrives, and a number of quarterbacks are still undecided.
Committed quarterbacks can still change their minds, but here is a look at the top quarterbacks who have yet to make a commitment.
3. Johnny Stanton (Santa Margarita Catholic High School, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA)
The 4-star ESPN dual-threat quarterback stands 6'2", 220 pounds and can truly beat defenses with his arm or his leg. Stanton does not look like an elite athlete playing quarterback, but he is deceptively athletic and thickly built.
He is still developing as a passer, but he is a natural playmaker, true gamer and is just starting to come into his own.
Again, his passing game will have to come with time as his mechanics are far from great, yet he flashes the potential to be a solid starter in a spread offense.
Stanton has shown work from both under center and in the gun and programs should pick up the heat on him this summer.
He currently holds offers from Air Force, Cal, Navy, Nebraska, Oregon State, San Diego State, Utah and Washington.
2. Tra'vonn Chapman (Theodore Kent Roosevelt, Kent, Ohio)
A 4-Star Rivals dual-threat quarterback, Chapman looks more the part of a runner than Stanton does but actually looks to make the throw more often than the California signal-caller.
There are questions surrounding his true height (he is listed at 6'2") but weighs in at 200 pounds. He is a good athlete with more quick-twitch athleticism than speed. He could possibly make a position change if he is shorter than listed.
But teams are recruiting him as a quarterback and he currently holds offers from 11 schools. According to Rivals, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin are of high interest.
Chapman is a kid who offers a lot of excitement and will find his way to a big-time D1 school.
1. Devante Kincade (Skyline, Dallas, Texas)
The 4-Star Scout.com dual-threat quarterback has worked with some really fine receiving talent in the last few years.
Skyline saw three of their wide receivers earn scholarships last season including 4-star receiver Thomas Johnson who wound up at Texas A&M.
This year his top target is 4-star receiver Ra'Shaad Samples, whose offer list is massive.
Kincade completed 186-of-263 passes for 3,270 yards and 37 touchdowns as a junior in 2011. Earning All-District and All-State honors, he also added 857 yards and 17 scores on the ground.
He is poised, experienced and has been a leader for some really talented players in recent seasons.
The rising senior is undersized at 6'1'', 180 pounds, but does have enough athleticism to make up for it. He currently holds offers from 12 schools with Kansas State, Mississippi State, Mississippi, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Oregon State drawing high interest.
