Nation's Top Recruit Robert Nkemdiche Reportedly Commits to Clemson

Ben ChodosJun 7, 2018

Defensive end Robert Nkemdiche has committed to play football at Clemson during his collegiate career, according to TigerIllustrated.com.

Rivals.com ranks the 6'5", 260-pound defensive end as the nation's top-overall recruit.

Nkemdiche, who attends Grayson High School in Georgia, was named to USA Today's All-USA second-team defense.

During his junior season, he recorded eye-popping statistics, finishing with 78 tackles, 36 tackles for a loss and 18 sacks, as noted in his Scout.com profile.

He will be a senior next year and already has elite size for a player at his position.

Few prospects his size possess his athleticism, and this has earned him comparisons to Hall of Famer Reggie White, according to Mark Schlabach of ESPN.com.

Schlabach also reports (in the same article) unofficial marks of a 350-pound max bench press, 335-pound power clean and a 4.56 40-yard-dash time.

Needless to say, every major college program wanted a piece of Nkemdiche. His Rivals.com profile is littered with check marks denoting interest from 15 schools, including Clemson, Alabama, Florida, LSU, Oregon and USC.

Two of his teammates committed to Clemson, and this likely was a deciding factor in his decision to head to the South Carolina-based school.

Tailback Wayne Gallman and defensive back David Kamara will each don orange jerseys during their college careers as well, as Michael Carvell of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution notes.

With the three Grayson standouts in its recruiting class, Clemson is sure to have one of the best recruiting seasons of any school in the country, with Nkemdiche as its best signing.
