European Championship 2012: Big Sleepers Not to Give Up on

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

The group stage has been quite exciting at Euro 2012, and football fans everywhere have been treated to an amazing week of intense action.

There are still several sleeper teams like the Czech Republic that still cannot be counted out in this tournament. We have seen some upsets already which have proven that no team is safe from defeat in this field.

Let's look at three big sleepers not to give up on yet.

Czech Republic

After a rough start to the tournament with a disappointing loss to Russia in the opening group stage match, the Czech Republic bounced back well against Greece to earn three points with a victory.

To guarantee a place in the quarterfinals, they must defeat an inferior Poland side that has two draws in their first two group matches.

If Petr Cech can play well in goal and Tomas Rosicky continues to dominate the midfield, then the Czech Republic will not be an easy team to knock out of this tournament.

Croatia

Croatia was impressive in their opening group match against Ireland, which they won 2-0 to take three points and the lead of Group C.

If they can defeat Italy in their next match, which they certainly have a shot at doing, their confidence will be sky high for the remainder of the tournament.

Croatia has a strong defense and some skilled forwards who can score goals. They won't be an easy opponent for the Italians on Thursday.

Denmark

Denmark shocked everyone by making the biggest upset of the tournament when they defeated the Netherlands 1-0 to begin play in Group B. They nearly upset Portugal in Wednesday's match as well.

Their next opponent is group leader Germany, but Denmark will be a very tough opponent for the Germans because of their strong defense and impressive play in the attacking third.

If Denmark draws or defeats Germany and the Netherlands beat Portugal, they would go through to the quarterfinal.
