Barrett SalleeJun 7, 2018

Every Wednesday here at The SEC Blog, we will update you on the latest commits, news and rumors in the recruiting world.

Commits

It was a good week for LSU head coach Les Miles. He got three commitments from players in the class of 2013, bringing LSU's commitment total to 16 players so far.

Headlining the trio is defensive end Frank Herron. Herron is a 6'5", 235-pound speed rusher from Memphis Central High School. He's a 4-star prospect, according to 247Sports.com, and is the next defensive end in line to be a star in Baton Rouge.

Also headed to Baton Rouge is big wide receiver Kyrion Parker. Parker is a relative unknown in the class of 2013, but has been impressing everyone that has seen him during camps this spring. He's a 3-star prospect, according to 247Sports.com, and will be a weapon in that LSU offense.

The third member of LSU's commitment trio this week is defensive tackle Kennard Swanson out of Lakeland, Fla. Swanson is a 6'0", 245-pounder who chose the Tigers over an offer from the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Ole Miss continued its hot streak this week by locking up its quarterback of the future—6'4", 205-pounder Ryan Buchanan. Buchanan is a pure pro-style quarterback who is rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports.com. Quarterback issues have been prevalent in Oxford ever since Jevan Snead left school early, and Buchanan's job will be to stabilize the position in 2013.

Buchanan will have a solid target at wide receiver in 2013 in 6'3", 195-pounder Derrick Jones from Eupora, Miss. Jones is a big target that can provide Buchanan with a solid possession receiver once the two arrive on campus next year.

Another target for Buchanan in Oxford will be 6'1", 185-pounder C.J. Hampton—but Hampton won't arrive until the class of 2014 is on campus. His commitment is the first for Ole Miss in the class of 2014.

South Carolina got a pledge from Brandon Golson, a 6'2", 215-pound outside linebacker from Fork Union, Va. via Georgia Military College. Golson signed with South Carolina in 2010 but didn't qualify. He then enrolled at Louisville, but never gained eligibility. He has two seasons of eligibility left.

The LeMay family is becoming as synonymous with Georgia football as the Colquitts were with Tennessee. Uriah LeMay, a 6'0", 200-pound wide receiver from Matthews, S.C., will join his older brother and quarterback Christian LeMay in Athens in 2013. The younger LeMay is rated as the No. 10 prospect in the state of North Carolina by 247Sports.com.

Joining LeMay in Athens will be 6'0", 158-pound wide receiver Reggie Davis. Davis is a 4-star speedster, according to 247Sports.com, and is one of those players that you don't want to see in space because he will run right past you.

Tennessee will be getting some help along the offensive line in the form of 6'5", 290-pound offensive tackle Brett Kendrick. Kendrick chose the Vols over an offer from Gus Malzahn's Arkansas State Red Wolves.

Auburn kept its momentum going this week with the commitment of cornerback/athlete Jahmere Irvin-Sills from Eastern Christian Academy in Elkton, Md. Sills has been impressing scouts in camps this spring, and can be a big-time weapon for that Tiger defense under defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder.

News and Rumors

The SEC passed a rule during spring meetings that allows teams to host recruits on official visits at off-campus conference games. According to Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Florida and Georgia won't take advantage of the rule change at the annual World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in Jacksonville, Fla.

Ricky Seals-Jones, the nation's No. 33 prospect according to 247Sports.com, has decommitted from Texas, according to ESPN.com. Seals-Jones wants to play basketball in addition to football, which is something that LSU has agreed to let him do. SEC newcomer Texas A&M is also on his radar.

I sat down with No. 1 overall recruit Robert Nkemdiche to discuss how important defensive scheme is during his decision-making process. From the sounds of it, it is the most important factor.
