Brazil vs Mexico: Surprise 2-0 Win Is Sign of Things to Come for El Tri

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Mexico didn't just stun Brazil in their final World Cup qualifying tune up of a three-game US road trip, they dominated A Seleção in picture perfect fashion.

El Tri saw their two most important goal-scorers, 24-year-old Chicharito and 23-year-old Giovani dos Santos, each net an early goal before battening down the hatches on the Brazilian attack.

Even with two of the most impressive young scorers in the world, 20-year-old Neymar and 25-year-old Hulk, a two-goal lead was too much to overcome for Brazil at Cowboys Stadium.

Mexico's win snaps a 10-game win streak for No. 6 ranked team in the world. Brazil was coming off a 4-1 thrashing of USA while Mexico had just defeated Bosnia-Herzgovina 2-1, and this latest turn of events makes many wonder just how large the gap between El Tri and USA is right now.

We can't get overly excited for the Mexicans as Brazil fielded a young, inexperienced squad captained by 26-year-old defender Thiago Silva--the starting XI's average age was somewhere between 21-22-years old.

But what we do know is that Mexico is a force to be reckoned with.

They can score goals, they proved in this match that they can mark the best strikers in the world even when they're in all-out attack mode and they have experienced depth to boast as well.

In addition to dos Santos and Chicharito, who respectively play for Tottenham and Manchester United in England, El Tri have 28-year-old Monterrey star Aldo de Nigris. He scored both goals against Wales and completes a trio of goal-scorers that should strike fear into any back line.

Mexico open the semi-final stage of qualifying play in the CONCACAF region against Guyana on Friday.

The expectations now surrounding this team are incredibly high, but they look to have finally put it altogether. We're still two years out from the World Cup, but Mexico, who is currently ranked 20th in the world, is making big moves right now.
