Spurs vs. Thunder: Game 4 Highlights, Twitter Reaction and Analysis

Austin GreenJun 7, 2018

Serge Ibaka started it and Kevin Durant finished it.

Ibaka hit all 11 of his field goal attempts, and Durant went on an all-out rampage in the fourth quarter to give Oklahoma City a 109-103 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

Although it was a close game, the Thunder were in control from the opening tip.

Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins fueled OKC early on by burying jumpers, throwing down monstrous dunks and playing sound fundamental defense.

But with the game on the line, the Thunder turned to the three-time NBA scoring champ. And boy, did he deliver.

Durant scored 16 straight points for OKC in the fourth quarter to finish off the Spurs and tie the series at two games apiece.

Tweets of the Night

Kendrick Perkins, Serge Ibaka and Nick Collison were on fire in the first half, and ESPN's Chris Palmer saw it coming. Or so he says.

"

Thunder living off Perk, Ibaka and Collison jumpers. Just as I, um, predicted.

— chris palmer (@ESPNChrisPalmer) June 3, 2012"

After Ibaka unleashed a vicious dunk in the third quarter, New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker hopped on the bandwagon.

"

Thundering up from my couch! IBAKA!!!

— Wes Welker (@WesWelker) June 3, 2012"

With Ibaka ripping the Spurs to shreds, Marc Stein of ESPN brought up an interesting thought for this summer.

"

If THIS Ibaka shows up in London, how much trouble is size-shy Team USA gonna see against the Gasol Bros and Co?

— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) June 3, 2012"

Despite OKC's early Ibaka-led dominance, however, Around the Horn panelist Bomani Jones pointed out that the game was much closer than it seemed in the third quarter.

"

wait, it's a 2-pt game?

— Bomani Jones (@bomani_jones) June 3, 2012"

But eventually, Kevin Durant buried the Spurs with a ridiculous fourth quarter performance, prompting Not Bill Walton to unleash this gem.

"

Kevin Durant is a futuristic being navigating the Thunder existence like fusion technology powering cloud cities through synthetic biology!

— Not Bill Walton (@NotBillWalton) June 3, 2012"

Must-See Highlight

The highlight of the night goes to Ibaka, who threw down this nasty Dr. J-esque dunk from outside the restricted area.

Grades for Key Spurs Players

Tim Duncan: B-

After shooting just 13-of-41 in the first three games, Duncan found his stroke in Game 4.

Old Timmy went for 21 points and eight rebounds, while shooting 9-of-17 from the field. Unfortunately, he couldn't do enough to counter the young and energetic Thunder bigs.

Tony Parker: C

Parker looked exhausted at times, as he was constantly chased around by the long Thunder guards.

He was just 5-of-15 from the field, and although he only had one turnover, he only had four assists as well. If San Antonio is going to win this series, Parker must play much better.

Manu Ginobili: C-

Ginobili was efficient with his shot, but he almost had as many turnovers (six) as field goal attempts (seven). That isn't going to cut it for San Antonio.

Grades for Key Thunder Players

Kevin Durant: A+

Durant was simply masterful this game. He got his teammates involved early, then destroyed the Spurs by burying shot after shot after shot in the fourth quarter.

At one point in the fourth, he scored 16 straight points for OKC. Then, with the Spurs creeping back in, he found James Harden wide open for a back-breaking three pointer.

Durant finished with 36 points, eight assists and six rebounds.

Russell Westbrook: C

Once again, Westbrook had trouble getting his shot to fall. He hit just 2-of-10 field goals, putting him at 34.2 percent shooting for the series.

If he plays better in San Antonio, the Thunder will have a great chance to steal Game 5.

James Harden: B

Harden couldn't hit anything early on, and he finished just 4-of-13 from the field.

However, he dished out seven assists, pulled down seven rebounds and drained a dagger three in the closing minutes. It was a solid overall game for Harden.

Game MVP: Serge Ibaka

Words can't properly describe Ibaka's performance.

The bouncy 22- year-old was unreal in Game 4, splashing jumper after jumper, while peppering in vicious dunks and intimidating blocked shots for fun.

After averaging just nine points during the first three games of the series, Ibaka went for 26 points on perfect 11-of-11 shooting. He also hit all four of his free throws and swatted shots.

Without question, this was the best game of Ibaka's careers.

What's Next?

The pivotal Game 5 will be Monday in San Antonio. The game will be televised on TNT, with tip-off coming shortly after 9 p.m. Eastern.
