20 Coolest Baseball 'Trick' Videos on YouTube
The advent of YouTube has given us a great way to access digital media, and while Major League Baseball works hard to keep their content off it, there are plenty of other videos worth seeing.
Whether it's a kid with too much time on his hands executing some trick shots, a player in the farm system working out flashy mechanics, or a trick play executed to perfection by a player to end the game, one can spend hours on end scanning through the Internet to take it all in.
Here are some of baseball's best trick plays that YouTube has to offer.
Connor Powers Trick Shots
1 of 20Being able to hit baseballs into garbage cans won't exactly translate to becoming a great player, but it certainly can't hurt—I guess.
Fake Lost Ball
2 of 20It's hard to believe these tricks can actually work in a game involving players older than eight years old. But, apparently, from time to time, miracles can happen.
Brandon Crawford Down on the Farm
3 of 20While biding their time in the farm system before making the leap to baseball's highest level, players find all sorts of ways to hone their skills in their free time.
The San Francisco Giants' Brandon Crawford is no different, as he's developed all sorts of unique ways to flash the leather.
Team France
4 of 20I guess the French have to be good at something.
Oldest Trick in the Book
5 of 20College players are taught all sorts of fundamentals throughout the day, but apparently this one slipped past them.
Flip over Catcher
6 of 20Athleticism helps any baseball player thrive on the diamond, but flipping over catchers just isn't something you see everyday.
Crazy Baseball Tricks
7 of 20Flashy fielding skills certainly make the game more fun, but I have a hard time believing they'd have a chance at converting these throws during an actual game.
Behind the Back Delivery
8 of 20The game of baseball is full of odd pitches, not the least of which is this guy's behind-the-back delivery.
Unassisted Triple Play
9 of 20They're not exactly "trick plays," but triple plays are about the most uncommon occurrence in baseball as it is.
So when you see someone take on the task all by their lonesome, it takes on a whole new level of impressiveness and needs to be recognized.
Batting Robot
10 of 20Even though he's not off to the hottest of starts on the West Coast, some have often wondered if Albert Pujols was a machine due to the amazing abilities he possesses.
Even with a start like this season, he's still far better than this fine machine.
Cole Smith Bat Tricks
11 of 20You certainly can't rule out the fact that Cole Smith was just such a failure at hitting a baseball that he opted to try and aim for a larger target.
Showing off the Arm
12 of 20Given his ability to hit targets from long distances, you'd have to think this guy is an outfielder.
But given the amount of time he has to film himself throwing baseballs, he was probably cut.
Over the House
13 of 20Amateur videography at its worst. I'm guessing this kid has no desire to become a decent baseball player, because if he did, he wouldn't spend his time filming himself throwing balls over his garage.
'Botched' Pickoff Move Ends the Game
14 of 20One of the fundamental things you need to remember when playing baseball is that you always need to be alert.
That can be easier said than done when you're in the heat of the moment, as this baserunner can attest to.
Jeter-worthy Acting Job
15 of 20Taking a page out of Derek Jeter's playbook, this guy did an admirable job of trying to trick the umpire (and everyone else) that he got the brunt of a misplaced fastball.
The umpire wasn't buying it, however, and the batter ultimately got shown the exit as a reward for his efforts.
Josh Womack Bat Tricks
16 of 20The ability to do the spinning bat trick won't get you any more hits, but hey, it can get you featured on YouTube.
Ultimate Batting Practice
17 of 20It's too bad this isn't possible, although I don't doubt that more than a few people have wasted time trying to get this done.
Pinpoint Accuracy
18 of 20The way this kid sets up the scene of every shot he takes, it's like he's playing a game of H-O-R-S-E with himself.
The Harlem Globetrotter of Baseball
19 of 20As the slide title indicates, baseball players should leave the theatrics of delivering a ball to the Harlem Globetrotters.
Never Trust an Opponent
20 of 20It's somewhat understandable to see little leaguers, high schoolers or even college players succumb to an opponent's trickery.
But when you as a major leaguer find yourself on the losing end of an act of deception, you've really left yourself with something to think about.
