Brian Price: Buccaneers DT Misses OTAs Due to Sister's Death

Jessica MarieJun 7, 2018

Brian Price had a good—albeit tragic—reason for missing this week's OTAs.

According to The Tampa Tribune's Roy Cummings, the Buccaneers defensive tackle was in the hospital for most of the week dealing with the grief of losing his sister Bridget in a car accident last week.

Price's agent Charles Price told Cummings:

"There is just no way to explain the grief he's feeling as a result of this loss. It's really taken quite a toll on him."

"

According to Cummings, Price has relied heavily on his sister since his brother died in a gang shooting in L.A. eight years ago, and he's been so shaken since the car accident that he was admitted to the hospital on Monday and didn't leave until Thursday.

His sister's death is yet another unfortunate chapter in Price's life. When he was 10, his brother Eddie was killed at 18 years old in a drive-by shooting. Five years after that, his 24-year-old brother Damon was killed by a gunshot wound to the head.

Despite his grief over the death of his two brothers, Price earned a scholarship to UCLA and was drafted by Tampa Bay in the second round of the 2010 draft. But he was limited by sore hamstrings and eventually had surgery on them in 2010.

Charles Price told Cummings

"

"He was ready to go with the OTAs starting up on Tuesday, but between a complete lack of sleep and all that he has been dealing with from this loss, he just couldn't do it. … No one has been struck by more bad luck and personal tragedy than this kid. But he'll be stronger for it, because that's the way he is. Like I said, he was trying to go on Monday and that was just a few days after all this happened."

"

According to NBCSports.com's Josh Alper, Price plans to adopt Bridget's seven-year-old and nine-year-old children.

The Bucs organization has yet to comment on Price's status, but he'll obviously receive plenty of time to recover before having to worry about football again.
