Michigan Football: The Wolverines' Top 5 WR Targets

Austin FoxApr 29, 2012

Wide receiver is Michigan's biggest position of both need and want for the remainder of the 2013 class. They currently have one committed, Jaron Dukes, and he is only a 3-star.

Seeing as how Michigan only brought in one 4-star receiver in the class of 2012, they really need to get at least one or two big-time receivers in this class.

Here's a look at the top five receivers Michigan has the best chances with, counting down from the lowest-rated receiver to the highest-rated receiver.

All rankings according to Rivals.com

All information found at thewolverine.com

5. Eldridge Massington (Mesquite, Texas) 6-3, 205 Pounds

1 of 5

When a guy like Eldridge Massington is No. 5 on this list, it means that Michigan is in contention for a number of good receivers.

Eldridge ranks as one of the 250 best players in the country, currently sitting at No. 245.

What is most intriguing about him is his size. His 6'3" frame would fit absolutely perfectly into Michigan's pro-style offense.

Not only does he have great size, but he has great speed as well, proven by his accomplishments in track.

The Wolverines have had success recruiting the state of Texas before, and hopefully that success will continue. However, he hasn't visited Ann Arbor before and will need to do so if Michigan expects to land him. The good news is that he is planning on visiting once his track season ends.

4. Sebastian Larue (Santa Monica, California) 5-11, 185 Pounds

2 of 5

Sebastian Larue may be a bit on the small side, but that's okay if Michigan is looking at him as a slot receiver. He has great speed and would really fit in fine in their offense.

However, he hasn't visited Ann Arbor and doesn't have any visit dates set up. Plus, it will be extremely hard to pull him off of the West Coast anyway.

Most of the Pac-12 schools have offered him, and at this point, they seem to be his favorites.

3. Marcell Ateman (Wylie, Texas) 6-4, 189 Pounds

3 of 5

How perfect would a 6'4" receiver look in Michigan's offense?

That's exactly what Marcell Ateman would be able to provide, though he does need to add some weight to that frame.

His great size really helps offset his lack of elite speed.

If Michigan wants to land him, though, they will need to get him on campus for a visit first.

2. Devon Allen (Phoenix, Arizona) 6-1, 190 Pounds

4 of 5

Devon Allen's best attribute is, without a doubt, his speed. His 6'1" frame may seem a bit tall to play in the slot, but his speed would make him the perfect slot receiver.

He is from Arizona, and Michigan has pulled some pretty darned good players from that state over the past few years.

Allen is planning on visiting the Wolverines sometime this summer.

1. Laquon Treadwell (Crete, Illinois) 6-3, 183 Pounds

5 of 5

Having Laquon Treadwell here at No. 1 is obviously a no-brainer.

Michigan is in desperate need of big-time play-making receivers, and Treadwell fits that description perfectly.

He is an elite receiver from right here in the Midwest, and Michigan does not want to let him slip away.

With offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and USC, it could be tough keeping him home.

He did visit for Michigan's spring game, but that hasn't given the team any clues on where he might land or when he might announce.

Michigan has just as good a shot as anybody, though.
