2012 NFL Mock Draft: Highlighting the Best Selections for Round 2
If the second round of the 2012 NFL draft lives up to the first round of the NFL draft, we are in for a treat.
Honestly, there isn't much more we could ask for, and now we can only hope teams start things off with a bang in the second round once again.
There are a number of big-name players still on the board, and although the first 32 names have already been called, there is no shortage of drama.
Here's a look at the best selection of Round 2.
33. St. Louis Rams: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
The Rams cannot ask for much more here—Martin is an amazing value and a potential starter for this team.
34. Indianapolis Colts: Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford
With Andrew Luck already in-house, the Colts would be foolish to pass on his favorite target.
35. Baltimore Ravens (via Min): Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama
The Ravens wanted to help their front seven, but opted to move out of the first round. Fortunately for them, Upshaw is still on the board.
The Crimson Tide star will be an immediate contributor and has a tremendously high floor. He understands football, schemes and will star for this team for a long time.
36. Denver Broncos (via TB): Reuben Randle, WR, LSU
The Broncos adding another weapon wouldn't surprise anyone, and because the Bucs jumped the gun on a running back, they have the chance to land someone like Randle this late in the draft.
37. Cleveland Browns: Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia
Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden will help this team immediately, so adding Glenn makes sense considering he can fit at any position.
38. Jacksonville Jaguars: Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama
Taking a shot on Jenkins won't hurt a Jags team that needs playmakers on both sides of the ball.
39. St. Louis Rams (via Wash): Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech
After filling major needs with their top two picks, landing a talented player with incredible upside cannot hurt the Rams here.
40. Carolina Panthers: Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall
Pass-rushers are at a premium in today's NFL, and Curry could join the Panthers' rotation in year one.
41. Buffalo Bills: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina
If Jeffery buys into his true talent, look out. The Bills are trying to compete with the Patriots, and a receiver of Jeffery's caliber helps them do just that.
42. Miami Dolphins: Andre Branch, DE, Clemson
Ryan Tannehill won't play this year, but Branch certainly will. Opposite Cameron Wake, the former Clemson star could make an immediate impact.
43. Seattle Seahawks: Mychal Kendricks, LB, California
The Seahawks reached in Round 1, but they can help their cause with a solid pick of Kendricks here in the second.
44. Kansas City Chiefs: Amini Silatolu, OG, Midwestern State
Helping the running game is the one thing the Chiefs offense has to do, and Silatolu can start immediately and give Jamaal Charles a huge boost.
45. St. Louis Rams (via Dal): Lavonte David, OLB, Nebraska
The Rams' need at outside linebacker is huge, and David is one of the best values in this draft.
46. Philadelphia Eagles (via Arz): Kendall Reyes, DT, UConn
Forget about needs here, Reyes joins an Eagles front that wants to get after the quarterback, and they've watched the Giants land two Super Bowl rings by adding value rather than need in the last two drafts.
47. New York Jets: Lamar Miller, RB, Miami
Drafting a running back here may be a reach, but Lamar Miller has tremendous talent and could be a starter in this league.
48. New England Patriots (via Oak): Devon Still, DT, Penn State
Still has the potential to be one of the best defensive players in this draft, and the Patriots need help in the front seven now and in the coming years.
49. San Diego Chargers: Bobby Massie, OT, Ole Miss
The Chargers' biggest asset, Philip Rivers, needs help standing upright once again.
50. Chicago Bears: Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin
The massive center prospect helps the entire Bears offensive line and gives Chicago a chance to get better at multiple positions.
51. Philadelphia Eagles: Bobby Wagner, OLB, Utah State
Honestly, can the Eagles go into another season with the linebackers they had a year ago? No, so add as many as possible.
52. Tennessee Titans: Ronnell Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma
Big and talented, Lewis gives Tennessee a force that their front seven lacks.
53. Cincinnati Bengals: Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State
Although Quick is the quick and fast receiver the Bengals initially wanted, his size is guaranteed to demand attention downfield, and that can only help A.J. Green.
54. Detroit Lions: Josh Robinson, CB, UCF
We all know Josh Robinson by now, and the Lions will have a hard time getting out of the second round without a talented cornerback to call their own.
55. Atlanta Falcons: Mitchell Schwartz, OT, California
The first pick of the Falcons' draft has to be a tackle or this team will suffer in the biggest games of the season yet again.
56. Pittsburgh Steelers: LaMichael James, RB, Oregon
Would you put anything past the Steelers, especially after the injury issues they dealt with last year? No.
57. Denver Broncos: Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson
The Broncos think they can avoid the defensive tackle position but, seriously, they can't. Thompson fills that hole immediately.
58. Houston Texans: Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers
Sanu is a true football player and will excel opposite someone like Andre Johnson. Don't be surprised if he's one of the top rookies this year.
59. New Orleans Saints: No Pick (Bounty Hunting)
59. Green Bay Packers: Trumaine Johnson, CB, Montana
Johnson's physical style is a great fit in Green Bay, and they need youthful players immediately.
60. Baltimore Ravens: Derek Wolfe, DL, Cincinnati
The Ravens' front seven need help, and Wolfe can offer that at a number of positions.
61. San Francisco 49ers: Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson
Remember the Niners' need for a second tight end? Well, Allen eases that opposite Vernon Davis in year one.
62. New England Patriots: Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State
Even Bill Belichick cannot pass on the value that is Adams this late in the draft.
63. New York Giants: Zebrie Sanders, OL, Florida State
The defending champion Giants need depth at tackle, and Sanders has the potential to start one day.
