Ranking the 10 Worst Dunkers in the NBA
The NBA is full of gifted athletes, and the dunk is one of the most beautiful plays to watch in the game.
Guys like Michael Jordan, Julius Erving and Vince Carter added to the beauty of the dunk with their genius at the rim. If you can dunk better than the rest, it can really make you stand out.
It became a valuable weapon for big men like Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan, who dunked all the time in the prime of their careers.
However, there are those who aren't as gifted with the jam and they make the following list of 10 worst dunkers in the NBA.
Glen Davis
1 of 10Glen "Big Baby" Davis is one of the better hustle players in the NBA. He won an NBA title with the Celtics in 2008 in only his second year in the league. Plays with a lot of emotion and isn't afraid to fly around. A great asset to have.
However, due to his awkward stature, he is also prone to less hang time when he jumps. He has missed several dunks in his career due to his problems with "leaping."
Luis Scola
2 of 10Luis Scola is one of the most consistent players in the NBA. Having come from South America, he has found a home with a Houston Rockets and started there the past few seasons.
However, one part of the game he has yet to master is the dunk, which has seen him goof on several times in his career. He has a great low-post game if you don't count his dunking deficiencies.
JaVale McGee
3 of 10JaVale McGee is one of the young and upcoming stars in the NBA. He was traded from Washington to Denver midseason in hopes that a fresh start might lead him in the right direction.
A fervent shot blocker and low-post rebounding threat, McGee commands a lot attention from big men. However, he has also tried to dunk from the free-throw line twice, but young man, that ain't gonna cut it.
Zach Randolph
4 of 10The man affectionately known as "Z-Bo" is one of the best power forwards in the game. Over a decade into his NBA career, he is still the double-double player that made him millions playing for the Portland Trail Blazers.
However, his dunk game is not that great, and he has made several blooper reels for his attempts at the jam. Good luck, Memphis, this year in the playoffs.
Kwame Brown
5 of 10Kwame Brown was the first overall selection of the 2001 NBA draft when Michael Jordan chose the young high school prodigy. Brown never panned out in Washington and has since become an NBA journeyman, making use of his big frame for defense and rebounding.
Never a fierce dunker, his dunking skills have been the topic of jokes among NBA fans, because a man that large should be able to dunk with finesse.
Chris Anderson
6 of 10Chris Anderson may be the "Birdman" but he will be remembered for a long time by NBA fans for his performance in the 2005 NBA Dunk Contest. "Birdman" took nearly took 20 attempts to get a dunk in, but when he finally hit it, he was fine and good.
Since then, he has been able to make it up by being a solid reserve for the Nuggets, but that memorable 2005 performance will always have him in these lists.
Chris Paul
7 of 10Chris Paul is one of the best point guards in the NBA since being drafted in 2005. His first year with the Clippers has already seen success, as they are in the playoffs this season.
However one area of the point guard's game that needs improvement is his dunk, which he rarely does. He is 6'1", but he just never gets that high off the ground when he goes for a jam.
Dirk Nowitzki
8 of 10The former league MVP is a sure-fire candidate for the Hall of Fame. He has the individual statistics to back it up, as well as a championship ring from 2011. One of the most unique players to grace the basketball court.
But as everyone seems to know, Dirk has a weakness and that is his dunking skill. He rarely dunks, preferring to shoot over players with his height, but that is reason why this great player is on this list.
Josh McRoberts
9 of 10Josh McRoberts is enjoying his first season in LA after playing his career with the Indiana Pacers. Life is much easier playing behind stars such as Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum.
McRoberts is an energy guy off the bench, but his dunking is not quite where it needs to be for a big man. He needs to get better as a flyer.
Nick Collison
10 of 10This longtime NBA vet is known for his hustle and intelligent play on the court. One area that is nonexistent in his game is the dunk, where Collision rarely takes the ball to the rim.
The Thunder will make the playoffs this season and may play in the Finals, but don't expect to see Collison on SportsCenter with some highlight-reel jams this postseason.
