2012 NFL Draft: Larry Fitzgerald Wants Cardinals to Draft Michael Floyd
It almost seems like eons ago when Kurt Warner was throwing the ball to not one, but two Pro Bowl receivers down in Arizona.
And as we know, Anquan Boldin is in Baltimore now as the main target for Joe Flacco.
But where's the help for Larry Fitzgerald?
That help might be addressed on Thursday in the first round of the NFL draft, when the Cardinals are on the clock at pick No. 13. A report surfaced today that Arizona's bright and shining star wants the Cardinals to take Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd.
Many have labeled Floyd the second-best wideout in this year's draft class behind Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon, and it's not hard to see why. The 22-year-old senior racked up almost 1,200 yards and nine touchdowns last year, leading Notre Dame to a bowl appearance, which it lost to Florida State in the Champs Sports Bowl.
But, is he the right pick for Arizona when their time comes?
There's no question that Kevin Kolb's job and credibility as a starting quarterback are on the line this year, and he needs all the help he can get. When someone named John Skelton takes your spot, wins more ballgames than you and leads the team to a .500 record, you know you have problems.
Lining up Floyd opposite one of the best receivers that this game may ever see would be a match made in heaven for Arizona. No one would slight management in the least if they went for the stud Fighting Irish wide receiver. However, if Kolb wants to get through another season alive, it's essential that the Red Birds address their needs on the offensive line.
A good pickup would be Riley Reiff from Iowa, who is a mammoth 6'6" and 313 pounds. He's a strong, physical tackle, can play either side and is effective in both the pass and the run, which will be a huge staple of the offense if Ryan Williams can come back healthy.
The good news for Arizona is that there are numerous receivers that the Cardinals can acquire in Round 2 if they intend to address another need.
Two guys to possibly keep an eye on would be Baylor wideout Kendall Wright, who was Robert Griffin III's favorite target for the Bears last year, and Alshon Jeffery from South Carolina, whose draft stock has taken quite a hit in the last couple of months and may trickle down to the early second round.
But if the Cardinals decided to grab Floyd at No. 13, there won't be many complaints.
Should the Cardinals grab Michael Floyd at No. 13 or someone else to provide another need? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
