Georgia Football: 5 Most Important Post-Spring Dates
Right now, it's not a good time to be a college football fan.
Recruiting has slowed down, spring practices are coming to an end and the regular season is a little over four months away.
So fans don't know what to do with themselves, because there are no games to watch and little news to read.
But the reality is, there is always something going on when it comes to following your team. For the Georgia Bulldogs, they are getting ready for a fast four months because, before you know it, the regular season will be here faster that you can say "Go Dawgs!"
Here's five important post-spring dates to mark down on your calendar.
SEC Media Days
1 of 5This is a time where all the teams in the SEC get together in Birmingham and talk about the upcoming season to local, region and national media.
For the Bulldogs, head coach Mark Richt will be in attendance, as well as some of the top players like Aaron Murray and Jarvis Jones.
This is also where the media votes on the preseason All-SEC teams and make their predictions regarding how the 12 teams will finish in the conference. I'm sure the Bulldogs will get some love from the media based on what they did last year, the players they have coming back and how this year's schedule should play out.
Tentative Date: July 18
Players Report for Preseason Camp
2 of 5Last year, the Bulldogs had 105 players report for preseason camp. This year, it should be about the same number, but let's hope no players get in trouble between now and then.
Normally, the Bulldogs report to campus and have meetings, testings and physicals the following day. They then take the field the day after that, and that's when fans know the season is right around the corner.
It will be exciting to see players like John Theus and Todd Gurley work with the team for the first time. Both players have a good chance to shake up the depth chart at offensive tackle and running back, respectively.
Tentative Date: first week in August
First Day of Classes
3 of 5This is another busy day for the Bulldogs, as they have to change their schedule a little bit so the players can get ready for the start of the fall semester.
Last year, the Bulldogs worked about 90 minutes in helmets, jerseys, shoulder pads and shorts, and took the next day off so the players could get ready for the semester.
By that time, the Bulldogs will have had about 10 days straight with no distractions, so it will be interesting how the players and coaches adjust.
Date: August 13
Picture Day
4 of 5This is a day where fans get to meet the players, coaches, cheerleaders and mascots. This is important because it's not every day that fans get a chance to get up close and personal with some of their favorite players, along with Mark Richt.
Normally, the event takes place right outside of Sanford Stadium, and it usually last for about four hours.
Another perk for going to Picture Day is that the two finalists for the next mascot will be announced.
Kickoff Weekend
5 of 5The most important post-spring date has to be the first game of the season, when the Bulldogs take on Buffalo.
It should be a blowout by the start of the third quarter, but the fans will be excited nonetheless, because the game marks the beginning of a new season and a fresh start for the Bulldogs.
There is nothing in the world like a Saturday at Sanford Stadium. That place will be rocking and rolling not only for that game, but for the entire 2012 season.
