Notre Dame Spring Game: Tommy Rees Deserves to Be Fighting Irish Starting QB
Tommy Rees deserves to be named the starting quarterback of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Brian Kelly needs to name a starter and go with it. From what I've seen, Rees gives Notre Dame the best chance to win games.
He won eight games last season—for a sophomore that's pretty impressive. To finish the 2010 season, Rees won four of five games.
Rees had six multiple-touchdown games last season while completing nearly 60 percent of his passes. This came after Dayne Crist was named the starter for the opener against South Florida.
What more is there to see?
He has earned the right to be named starter in spring, giving him the maximum amount of repetitions in practice.
Instead, he's in a battle with Andrew Hendrix and Everett Golson.
I don't get it.
Naming Rees the starter at this point would be the wise decision. It would tell his teammates that this is their guy for 2012.
I'm not a fan of having multiple quarterbacks battle for a position because, clearly, there isn't a dominant quarterback in the system. When you have two quarterbacks, or in this case three, that means you don't have a reliable option.
Rees is as reliable an option as Notre Dame will see this season.
He gives the team its best option to win, plus he has the body of work to prove he's worthy of the job.
Rees deserves to be the starter.
