Manchester United Transfer: 5 Reasons Not to Sign Mario Balotelli

Bimersha GautamJun 7, 2018

Mario Balotelli n.: Italian football player renowned for his deranged antics.

A rare blend of youth and experience coupled with phenomenal talent is indeed hard to come by these days, and Mario Balotelli is one such representative. Someone who has proven his worth in two separate leagues with much success, Balotelli is indeed an exquisite player who can prove pivotal to any team.

However, there is one minor detail.

He is a headcase.

Roberto Mancini has reportedly had enough of his behavior and might look to offload him over the summer.

Yesterday, I presented an article, highlighting why Manchester United should sign the enigmatic Italian.

However, some comments have certainly been eye-openers, and today I present to you why United should stay at a distance from the Italian.

Manchester City Will Never Sell Him

Ever since a huge cash injection, Manchester City have turned from mid-table fodder to genuine title contenders.

This season, the title seems to be just beyond them, as the rift between City and United is at five points with only a handful of games remaining.

Come next season, City will return as a stronger, more tightly knit unit, and it does not make any sense to sell one of your biggest talents to your cross-town, bitter rivals.

A testament to Balotelli's talents is that in only 14 appearances this season, he has amassed 13 goals in the Premier League, while he has scored twice and assisted once during Manchester City's short stint at the UEFA Champions League this season.

Therefore, if City do indeed get rid of him, he will be shipped to the continent.

He Is Not a Team Player

Mario Balotelli, for all his talent and potential, is a selfish, immature player.

If you observed the game against Arsenal, he was an utter disgrace. Making poor challenges, not tracking back to defend and whining when not passed the ball were the only attributes in his repertoire that day.

At Inter, he had some notable problems with Jose Mourinho, and at City he has already butted heads with the likes of Yaya Toure and Micah Richards.

For a team like United who wish to perform as one unit and not a collection of individual entities, Balotelli simply does not fit in.

Even Managers Can't Control Him

We already mentioned that he did not fit in well with Jose Mourinho and his inter team.

And recently, even Roberto Mancini had this to say

"

"Every big game he plays very well. His problem is concentration. But I work with him every day. I don't speak with him every day because otherwise I would need a psychiatrist, but I speak with him because I don't want him to lose his quality.

Mario can be one of the top players in Europe. I don't want him to lose his talent."

"

Why on earth would anyone want to sign such a person?

United Already Have Three Capable Strikers

4 of 5

In my previous article, I mentioned how signing Balotelli may afford Sir Alex the use of versatile tactics, such as molding Wayne Rooney into an attacking midfielder of some sort.

However, with players like Tom Cleverly coming through the ranks, this notion certainly has faults.

And in the striking department, Sir Alex has at his disposal three very capable strikers—the brilliant Wayne Rooney, Javier "Chicarito" Hernandez and Danny Welbeck.

Chicarito and Welbeck are both strikers who have tremendous potential and have already proved themselves; bringing in Balotelli will not only hinder their development but might lead to the acrimonious exits of such talented stars.

Sir Alex Ferguson

5 of 5

Certainly, Sir Alex has worked wonders with disciplinary rebels like Roy Keane, Eric Cantona and Wayne Rooney. However, a certain difference between these players and Balotelli is that unlike Mario, these players have always been team players, willing to give everything for the team.

All these men were professionals and did not throw temper tantrums at every single thing that displeased them.

A headcase like Balotelli will test Sir Alex's presence with outbursts and ludicrous behavior. Not to mention the bad press that will follow and bring disharmony into the squad.

Sorry Mario, we have no room for you at United.
