Ohio State Football Recruiting: What the Buckeyes Still Need in 2013 Class
Ohio State's recruiting class got yet another addition from Elyria DL Tracy Sprinkle on Tuesday, bringing the size of the Buckeyes' class up to nine.
The class has a little bit of everything, including two talented corners in Cameron Burrows and Eli Woodard, good linemen in Sprinkle and Billy Price and an elite-level athlete in Jalin Marshall.
Given scholarship reductions, it's very likely Ohio State can only double its class unless a significant amount of transfers and early departures occur between now and signing day in February. That means Ohio State can only have about nine more commits, give or take one or two.
What that also means is Urban Meyer is going to have to be very, very selective of whom he wants in this class.
Right now, there are a few significant positions that need to be filled in this class that have not yet been addressed: offensive line, wide receiver and linebacker.
The offensive line for Ohio State has been a huge problem for a long time, but the verbal of OT Evan Lisle is humongous, as he is among the best tackles in the country.
They needed a good tackle, at worst for depth, but still need some more help. The Buckeyes are very much in the game for Illinois product Ethan Pocic as well as Marcell Lazard.
When it comes to wide receivers, Cleveland Heights' Sheldon Gibson has long been considered a Buckeye lean. He won't announce until June, but it seems the speedy Gibson is certainly bound for Scarlet and Gray.
Ohio State is also heavily in the mix for a large group of receivers including Laquon Treadwell, James Quick, Devon Allen and Robert Foster, although some people are mixed on the level of interest amongst the Buckeyes and Foster.
The Buckeyes will likely add two more in addition to Marshall.
The LB position is a surprising position of weakness considering the massive amount of talent the Buckeyes have produced there for years. Although they did get some great commits at the position for 2012 in Josh Perry, Camren Williams and David Perkins, they need a little more in 2013.
OSU doesn't have any commits at the linebacker spot right now, but are in on quite a talented crop, including Jaylon Smith, Tim Kimbrough, Alex Anzalone and Courtney Love. They might take two, although the latter two (Anzalone and Love) seem much more likely to commit to Ohio State than Smith or Kimbrough.
If the Buckeyes can fill those needs in what is a very deep pool of talented players in the Midwest—one of the deepest in quite a while—they will have a class akin to some of the best in the country.
Although its total class numbers may only be as large as what Michigan has in its class right now, Ohio State will have quite the quality players that only a few schools can match.
