15 Recruitments That Will Shape the 2013 College Football Recruiting Class
When we look back at certain recruiting classes, there are certain prospects and recruitments that immediately come to mind.
Like "Oh 2002, that's the year Lorenzo Booker chose Florida State at the last minute." Or "Yeah, 2012 was a crazy year. Gunner Kiel was the best QB that year, and he committed to three schools before signing day even came!"
Well, for this read, I'm going to give you 15 recruitments that could shape our memories for the 2013 class.
Let's take a look at 15 interesting recruiting sagas this 2013 cycle.
15. Ricky Seals-Jones, WR
1 of 15I have Seals-Jones on this list because it may be very interesting when we look back years from now to see him at WR. He plays QB for his high school team now, but many still have him among the best WR prospects in the country.
Also, he's 6'5", 215 pounds, and RS-J may become a tight end at Texas before it's all said and done. Interesting to say the least.
14. Justin Davis, RB
2 of 15Davis is the best offensive skill position prospect in California this year, and that alone gets him on this list. However his recruitment is pretty interesting.
He's coming off of a productive junior season and has offers from USC, Cal, Florida State, Oklahoma, Washington and Michigan.
It will be interesting to look back and see if Davis ended up at USC or at another national program.
13. Adam Breneman, TE
3 of 15Breneman is on this list because he's the first landmark recruit Bill O'Brien landed in his first full year recruiting for Penn State.
It's also fascinating because Breneman is the nation's top TE prospect, and O'Brien specializes in getting the ball to tight ends. So this one will be interesting to look back at, as we'll see if this was the match made in Heaven that we think it is now.
12. Kendall Fuller, CB
4 of 15Fuller is a potential laced CB who has elite athletic ability and a high ceiling. He also comes from a great program in Good Counsel of Maryland.
The 6'0", 185-pounder has ties to Virginia Tech, as his brothers played in Blacksburg. Yet, Clemson is in the mix, as is Maryland and Tennessee, among others.
Does Fuller follow the family line to the land of the Hokies or walk his own path?
11. Jaylon Smith, OLB
5 of 15Smith is a good OLB prospect at 6'3", 225 pounds. I'm going to remember his recruitment because he's got a brother that plays at Ohio State, but Smith also digs Notre Dame.
Does Smith go play with his brother? Or does he go to Notre Dame? This recruitment will help shape the 2013 class' memory in our minds.
Look for Smith to announce in August.
10. Montravius Adams, DT
6 of 15An explosive 6'3", 285-pound DT, Adams is a big time prospect. Yet he's maybe the most wide-open recruit in the country.
He's taken trips to Georgia and Auburn, but that hasn't meant too much.
It'll likely boil down to schools like Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Florida and Clemson.
9. E.J. Levenberry, LB
7 of 15Levenberry is a 6'3", 230-pound 'backer from the Atlantic region that has an interesting recruitment going on.
See, Levenberry loves Michigan a whole lot.
But Florida State, Florida, Tennessee and Oklahoma have all impressed him too.
We'll be shaped by this recruitment ,because when we look back, we'll know if Levenberry followed his heart to his first love or fell in love with someone else on the way there.
8. Antonio Conner, DB
8 of 15I really dig Conner as a prospect. The 6'2", 195-pounder could be the best open-field tackler in the nation. He's a future starting strong safety in the SEC.
But what program will that be? Conner is from a school that usually sends players to Ole Miss, but he also has Mississippi State and Alabama after him too.
Does he go the pipeline way? Or does Conner play for the pipeline's rival? Or just leave the state and play at 'Bama?
7. Su'a Cravens, DB
9 of 15Listen, with Cravens, it's USC and the rest of the field. There, I said it. USC is heavy in the mix, and I even think he eventually lands in Troy.
But Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio State have not stopped for Cravens, and he will visit them at some point before he makes a decision.
Cravens' recruitment will help shape our 2013 memories, as we'll look back and say, "That's the year Cravens toyed with USC but ended up elsewhere," or "That's the year USC got Su'a Cravens."
6. Ty Isaac, RB
10 of 15A big back with little back speed, Isaac is one of the most intriguing prospects in the country. Rumors have circled that he wants to be the only RB in his class.
Isaac insists that isn't true.
Also, Michigan could be the leader, but USC is also in the mix, as is Auburn and Notre Dame, among others. Where does Isaac end up? Does he become the only RB in his class after all?
5. Laremy Tunsil, OL
11 of 15Tunsil is the nation's best OT prospect, but he's still very raw. I will remember his recruitment because I'm interested to see what type of player he ends up as in college.
It's pretty much a Florida vs. Georgia race for Tunsil, a Sunshine State native. Does he stay home and be a Gator or head up to Athens and play at UGA?
Hmmmm...
4. Robert Foster, WR
12 of 15Scout.com lists Foster as the No. 1 WR prospect on their board. He's a 6'2" speedster from the greater Philadelphia area, and right now, there really isn't a clear-cut favorite.
Penn State is on his trail heavy, but so is Ohio State, Florida, Alabama, Florida State, Oregon and Notre Dame.
Does Foster head to Happy Valley or does he go someplace else?
3. Max Browne, QB
13 of 15Browne is the top QB in the country, and really, that alone puts him on this list. I think he has more hype than Gunner Kiel and Jameis Winston did last year, and probably Braxton Miller and Jeff Driskel too.
Browne's bantered as the real deal, and when he announced his decision a few weeks ago to attend USC, it sent rippling affects around the country. Other QB prospects took notice, programs shuffled their boards and Trojan fans went crazy.
This 2013 cycle will be the year we remember how Browne's recruitment affected so many other prospects.
2. Vernon Hargreaves III, CB
14 of 15Hargreaves' recruitment is very, very fascinating to me. His father is at USF, but Hargreaves has offers from USC, Florida, Florida State and Alabama, among others.
Does he go play with his father, or does he go to a school with a higher profile? This is one of the most interesting storylines in the country for 2013.
1. Robert Nkemdiche, DL
15 of 15The No. 1 overall prospect was thought to be committing on May 18th, but now that is in sincere jeopardy.
His buddy, RB Wayne Gallman is headed to Clemson, which is one of the top four schools for Nkemdiche, along with LSU, Alabama and Ole Miss.
Nkemdiche is the most college-ready player, perhaps ever, at 6'5", 270 pounds. He's a monster, and this 2013 recruiting cycle's memories in our minds will be shaped most by him and his recruitment.
