Liverpool vs. Everton: Andy Carroll Comes Up Clutch as Reds Reach FA Cup Final

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll fought through adversity and finally came up clutch for the Reds with the match winning goal against Everton on Saturday to earn his club a place in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Carroll broke a 1-1 tie with an 87th minute goal after Luis Suarez got Liverpool equalized just 15 minutes prior.

Carroll and Suarez leading the Liverpool attack was something their fans envisioned they would see a lot when both players came to Anfield during last year's January transfer window, but Carroll has struggled immensely since making his £35 million transfer from Newcastle.

Before he booked Liverpool's ticket to the final, Carroll missed a golden opportunity to put the Reds ahead just after halftime when he missed a header that went wide. After that, it looked like Carroll was going to fail to come up clutch again, but he fought through it and ultimately became the hero.

Give Carroll tremendous credit; he could have disappeared after that huge miss, but he showed a lot of character by digging deep and finding success.

The expectations and criticism have grown larger each month during his tenure on Merseyside, but Carroll doesn't let it bother him on the pitch. 

Liverpool need Carroll to round into form as they attempt to close the season on a positive note. An FA Cup victory against either Tottenham or Chelsea in the final would be an amazing way to conclude their disappointing campaign.

After winning the Carling Cup earlier this season at Wembley, another trophy would be massive for the club after they entered this season with a trophy drought.

Saturday's triumph could serve as the moment that catapults Carroll's confidence this season and allows him to play at the level he's capable of.

If Liverpool wants to finish this year strongly and have success in the future, Carroll has to play well and make defenders hate to play against him.
