College Football: Updating Every Team Through Spring in a Tweet
Spring games are underway, but college football fans are already dreaming of next fall.
During the spring, teams are getting a look at young players and starting to develop a depth chart. Some teams return a lot of starters and are looking to repeat last years success while others have some holes to fill.
Time to take a look at every team in the FBS in everyone's favorite 140-character or less format as spring activities wind up.
Boston College
1 of 120Leading tackler Kuechly is gone this year. BC lacks depth and talent and they are in store for another long season. #WatchFlutieTape
Clemson
2 of 120Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins ready to run wild in the ACC but the Tigers will have to avoid a late season collapse #GetThroughNovember
Duke
3 of 120Last year's three win season was what Duke fans have come to expect. More talent this spring though, so they should improve.
Florida State
4 of 120Expectations and talent are both with FSU this year. Schedule is favorable so the time to take advantage is now. #FearTheSpear
Georgia Tech
5 of 120Paul Johnson and the Jackets could be a dark horse in the ACC this year. With their option attack, they are always dangerous.
Maryland
6 of 120Things have been a mess for Edsall since arrive at Maryland. If things don't get turned around this year, he could find himself on the hot seat.
Miami
7 of 120Miami and Golden appear to be sitting ducks. Along with struggling on offense, it could only be a matter of time before the NCAA comes calling.
NC State
8 of 120No Russell, no problem. NC State appears to be looking at a strong season with Glennon under center. Had great '11 and good spring so far.
North Carolina
9 of 120Larry Fedora is causing a positive buzz around N.C. With the upbeat attitude of their new coach, the Heels have their playcaller of the future
Virginia
10 of 120London and Cavs have a lot to prove in '12. The schedule is much more difficult and they are trying to show last year wasn't a fluke.
Virginia Tech
11 of 120Hokies have another strong team but have to be seeing the Tigers in their nightmares. Things get worse when they play Clemson on the road
Wake Forest
12 of 120Focus in spring is to finish. Wake Forest had a good start in '11 but fell apart down the stretch. Grobe needs to keep team focused all year.
Baylor
13 of 120Life without Griffin begins. The Bears about to see in '12 the true overall impact that he had based on how difficult this season will be.
Iowa State
14 of 120Iowa State still appears to be behind the curve in the Big 12. The lack of depth will make it hard for them to compete. #NotThereYet
Kansas
15 of 120Weis is there but this team is still awful. The worst D in the nation won't be much better. Weis is going to need a lot of time. #UphillBattle
Kansas State
16 of 120Snyder and the Cats are back. Offense looks strong and this appears to be a team that will be in the thick of the conference title race.
Oklahoma
17 of 120Stoops has Jones back and the Sooners are hoping they can make a run at the BCS title. Huge game at WVU could determine things. #BCSHopes
Oklahoma State
18 of 120Some huge losses in the offseason are causing issues for the Cowboys. Last year's conference title run will not be repeated in '12. #NoMoreBlackmon
TCU
19 of 120This will be TCU's first year in the Big 12. If the Horned Frogs can repeat their success from previous seasons, they can prove they belong.
Texas
20 of 120Brown needs to get things turned around before Longhorns fans get too restless. If the offense can step up, the Horns should be fine. #Hookem
Texas Tech
21 of 120After huge win in Norman, Red Raiders saw their season fall apart. This spring and summer will be spent on gaining consistency.
West Virginia
22 of 120Offense will be WVU's strength this year. The good news is their big games are at home and they face a very favorable schedule #Big12Champs?
Cincinnati
23 of 120Big East is wide open but filling the QB spot will cause issues. In any other conference they may be out but Cinci will still challenge.
Connecticut
24 of 120Despite the weakness of the Big East, UConn doesn't have the talent or depth at this time to be a challenger.
Louisville
25 of 120Teddy Bridgewater looked good as a freshman and through spring looks better in his second year. Look for Louisville to have a chance in '12.
Pittsburgh
26 of 120Pittsburgh has been floating in mediocrity these past few years but still have a chance. If the D can carry them, the Panthers have a shot.
Rutgers
27 of 120Schiano is gone and the Scarlet Knights are moving on. After a good '11, Rutgers hopes they can get more from their offense this fall.
South Florida
28 of 120BJ Daniels and the Bulls are in a great position to win the Big East. If the offense can play to its potential then the Bulls could be champs.
Syracuse
29 of 120With a hole at QB 'Cuse is fighting an uphill battle this spring. If the D can hold up they have a shot but it is unlikely they will be a factor
Temple
30 of 120Temple is new to the Big East but will challenge this year. With a strong defense, the Owls should improve this spring and challenge this fall.
Illinois
31 of 120No more Zook and far down the conference power rankings. The Illini just need to try and avoid a late season collapse like last year.
Indiana
32 of 120One win last year was rough. What is even worse is the team didn't gain much depth and could be looking at more of the same in 2012.
Iowa
33 of 120The Hawkeyes are getting lost in the shuffle in the B10. In 2012, they need to lean on their D and run game to get back into the mix.
Michigan
34 of 120Denard Robinson is back but the schedule is much more difficult this year. While they look good this spring, Bama awaits in week one. #Uh-oh
Michigan State
35 of 120The defense will need to carry the Spartans this year. Twice they have been on the doorstep of the Rose Bowl—could the 3rd time be the charm?
Minnesota
36 of 120Jerry Kill has his hands full. The team is lacking in depth and they will be fighting with Indiana to stay out of the basement.
Nebraska
37 of 120Offense will miss Rex but the defense looks strong like usual. The Huskers should lean on last year to challenge for the Big 10 title.
Northwestern
38 of 120Between the schedule and apparent lack of depth, the Wildcats aren't going to earn that elusive bowl win. #LongTimeComing
Ohio State
39 of 120The biggest question won't be answered until the fall. Can Urban Meyer keep this team focused and committed without a bowl game in 2012? #Yes
Penn State
40 of 120Unusual feeling in spring with no Joe Paterno. It will be interesting to see how this program moves on in '12 without JoePa's presence.
Purdue
41 of 120Might be a long shot but with OSU being banned from postseason and Wisconsin losing Russell, maybe Purdue can take advantage.
Wisconsin
42 of 120No Wilson but have Ball back. The Badgers are going to have to lean on the running game because you can't replicate Wilson's worth.
East Carolina
43 of 1204-4 in conference won't get it done. ECU must find a way to improve their defense and make some stops that could earn them another victory.
Houston
44 of 120No Case Keenum and new head coach is going to cause some serious issues for the Cougars. Watch out as they coming crashing back to earth.
Marshall
45 of 120Despite a struggling offense and defense, Marshall still had a shot to go to the conference title game. Cato at QB should help in 2012.
Memphis
46 of 120One of the worst teams in the FBS isn't getting much better. A dreadful offense and defense will limit their success this year.
Rice
47 of 120Rice loses Nick Fanuzzi but has Taylor McHargue to step in at QB. The reps he got last year and in spring should pay dividends this fall.
SMU
48 of 120Despite their hole at QB, SMU has been rising for a while and this could be their year to cash in if the D and run game holds up. #PonyExpress
Southern Miss
49 of 120Southern Miss won the Conference USA title last year but lost their QB to graduation. If the D can repeat last year's effort, they have a shot.
Tulane
50 of 120Much like Memphis, Tulane is helpless on both sides of the ball. Winning three games in 2012 would be a step forward from 2011. #LostCause
Tulsa
51 of 120Kinne carried the offense last year but has since graduated. Unless the defense gets much better over spring and summer, Tulsa will drop.
UAB
52 of 120Between a brutal out of conference schedule and a thin depth chart, UAB's three win season last year may be repeated this year.
UCF
53 of 120For a team that only went 5-7, UCF finished with a top ten defense. If the D is up to a repeat performance then the Knights may go bowling.
UTEP
54 of 120Based on their offense and defense, the Miners overachieved with their five wins last year. Look for this year to be a step back.
Army
55 of 120The two-headed attack of Raymond Maples and Trest Steelman is back in 2012. They should help improve from their three wins last year.
BYU
56 of 120Riley Nelson is back and with a relatively easy schedule, the Cougars should put together an impressive season. #BCSBuster
Navy
57 of 120Navy starts the year in Dublin against the Irish. If they can remain consistent all year, the Midshipmen could return to the bowl season.
Notre Dame
58 of 120Seems like every year there is a buzz around the Irish. The talent is there, but so is a brutal schedule. A BCS game is not in the cards.
Akron
59 of 120One win is all you need to know about the Zips in 2011. What makes it worse is one win may be the total at the end of this year.
Ball State
60 of 120Keith Wenning is back at QB but the Cardinal defense is still dreadful. Unless things change over the summer, it will be a long year in 2012.
Bowling Green
61 of 120Matt Schilz had a good season at QB for Bowling Green but during the spring the team must develop a run game and defense to be successful.
Buffalo
62 of 120Since the departure of Turner Gill, the Bulls have slipped back to being at the bottom of the standings. This year will be no different.
Central Michigan
63 of 120Central Michigan has seen a lot of challenges on both sides of the ball and in 2012, it appears those issues will still be there.
Eastern Michigan
64 of 120Ron English has done an amazing job at Eastern but may have reached a wall. With the lack of talent, there is only so much English can do.
Kent State
65 of 120The best news for Kent State's offense is that Spencer Keith is back. If the D can play up to last year's standards, they could improve.
Miami (OH)
66 of 120The defense is strong but the offense leaves something to be desired. Improving the offense going into the fall is a must.
Northern Illinois
67 of 120Lots of offensive holes from last years conference title team. The Huskies must find replacements for Hopkins and Harnish.
Ohio
68 of 120Explosive sophomore Tyler Tettleton is back. He was a huge rushing and passing threat in 2011 and will do more of the same this year.
Toledo
69 of 120The two-headed monster at QB should continue in 2012. Between Owens and Dantin, the Rockets have a dangerous offense.
Western Michigan
70 of 120W.Michigan had a top 20 offense last year and QB Alex Carder is back for his final year. Look for a lot of passing yards from the Broncos.
Air Force
71 of 120Air Force continues to be the most consistent service school and based on the talent this year should be heading to another bowl game.
Boise State
72 of 120Moore is gone and the Broncos should be an interesting team this year. Can Petersen keep them moving forward or is it time for rebuilding?
Colorado State
73 of 120Colorado State has continued to trend downward with some bad recruiting and poor development. This will be another long year for the Rams.
Fresno State
74 of 120This will be the first year in a while without head coach Pat Hill. The Dogs had a letdown last year and the bar isn't that high this year.
Hawaii
75 of 120One thing you can count on with Hawaii is the passing game but last season it was a letdown. That must change this spring.
Nevada
76 of 120While Nevada isn't at the level it was in 2010, they are solid on both sides of the ball which will keep them competitive in the MWC.
New Mexico
77 of 120New Mexico may end up being the nation's worst team this year. The offense and defense are both awful and beyond saving. #LostCause
San Diego State
78 of 120San Diego State lost a ton of talent in the offseason and will need to start rebuilding. The offense took the biggest hit and will struggle.
UNLV
79 of 120When you combine a poor offense and a poor defense, you get UNLV. The Rebels struggled through last season and that won't change in '12.
Wyoming
80 of 120Wyoming was average in 2011. The Cowboys were able to get to a bowl game but Brett Smith could help them step up in his second year at QB.
Arizona
81 of 120Rich Rod is now at the helm and the Cats are looking to rebound. May take a season or two as offseason losses will hurt them in 2012.
Arizona State
82 of 120Not sure how a team can get comfortable with a coach that has been with three teams in three years but the Sun Devils must find a way.
Cal
83 of 120The seat is getting hot for Jeff Tedford in Cal. They have talented classes but still don't figure to be a factor in the Pac-12 race.
Colorado
84 of 120Colorado got roughed up in the P12 last year and this year the talent is just not there to be competitive in a division with USC. #BuffsIn'13
Oregon
85 of 120No LMJ, no DT, Chip Kelly has his hands full at QB but knows there is plenty of talent ready to earn a fourth straight conference title.
Oregon State
86 of 120Mike Riley is a great coach but all of the talent is going to Oregon. OSU fans are in for a bad season and will once again lose to the Ducks
Stanford
87 of 120Luck-less in 2012 will make for a long season. While the run game will remain strong, Stanford knows a step back is coming.
UCLA
88 of 120Mora is taking over at UCLA and things should be interesting in '12. UCLA has the talent, do the now have the coaching? #HopefulBruinFans
USC
89 of 120The hype machine is in full effect. The Trojans are bowl eligible and with Barkley back, USC is in the running for the P12 and BCS titles
Utah
90 of 120With plenty of talent back, Utah got things figured out late last year. Hopefully the Utes can see that carry over into this year.
Washington
91 of 120The offense looks strong up in Washington but the defense that got torched by Baylor will be their downfall in 2012. #KeepScoring
Washington State
92 of 120The Pirate has come into dock in Washington State and the Cougars may be on the rise. Mike Leach should do wonders with Jeff Tuel.
Alabama
93 of 120Nick Saban does a great job of reloading. Can the new blood on the Tide depth chart bring another title home? #HighExpectations
Arkansas
94 of 120Bobby Petrino is now out and the Hogs need an answer at coach. With this talented squad, will this offseason drama detract from a title run?
Auburn
95 of 120The Tigers have the talent to overcome the loss of Dyer but still will find it hard to get back to their '10 form. #WarEagle
Florida
96 of 120Florida is looking to find some explosion from their offense. Since the departure of Tebow things have slowed down and become stale.
Georgia
97 of 120The focus with coach Richt is back on winning instead of firing him. Richt has the talent back and needs to come through with a big season.
Kentucky
98 of 120Joker Phillips is doing a great job at Kentucky but it still isn't enough. This is a basketball town so enjoy the title until the fall.
LSU
99 of 120LSU has to be still stinging from last season's finale. Can they remain focused on the game leading up to the rematch in Death Valley?
Mississippi State
100 of 120Beating Ole Miss isn't enough anymore. Mullen must find a way to continue to grow the depth and talent to compete in the SEC.
Missouri
101 of 120Missouri is in over their heads. The SEC is a jump up from the Big 12 and they will learn that quickly. #BigMistake #GoodLuck
Ole Miss
102 of 120Things have hit rock bottom for the Rebels. Nutt is out and Ole Miss is searching for an answer to get out of the basement. #KeepSearching
South Carolina
103 of 120With Lattimore back, the Gamecocks should have a great offense. If the D can hold up like last year, then S.Carolina is a threat in the SEC.
Tennessee
104 of 120With Bray healthy, the Vols looked good. He is back and through spring Tennessee appears strong and could turn some head in '12.
Texas A&M
105 of 120The biggest question for the Aggies is can they compete in the SEC. One thing they must avoid is losing a second half lead like last season.
Vanderbilt
106 of 120Franklin is doing a great job at Vanderbilt. They will need a better effort from their defense if they want to improve on last year.
Arkansas State
107 of 120New coach and Michael Dyer are on board so while the out of conference schedule may be rough, the Wolves could repeat as conference champs.
FIU
108 of 120Bad news for the Golden Panthers is while the defense held strong last year, the offense did not and they lose QB Carroll to graduation.
Florida Atlantic
109 of 120Florida Atlantic gives New Mexico a run for their money for the worst team in the FBS. No offense or defense will equal another long season.
Middle Tennessee
110 of 120Logan Kilgore is back as a junior for Middle Tennessee and could help their struggling offense. Only problem is their defense was even worse.
North Texas
111 of 120The upside for N.Texas this year is they had a young offense last year. If players like Derek Thompson can step up, they may be on the rise.
Troy
112 of 120During a slow season in '11, Troy was able to develop QB Corey Robinson. This year, the Trojans are hoping for big things from him. #HighHopes
ULL
113 of 120The Cajuns had a great season in 2011 and most of that young talent is back. Look for ULL to give Arkansas State a run for the Sun Belt title.
ULM
114 of 120Unlike ULL, ULM struggled last year on both sides. Unless they receive some surprising contributions, it will be more of the same this year.
Western Kentucky
115 of 120W.Kentucky had a good '11 but lost Bobby Rainey to graduation. The decline in the running game will be a challenge in 2012.
Idaho
116 of 120The fighting potatoes are just never good. Along with a tough schedule, the talent is just not their to even compete in the WAC.
Louisiana Tech
117 of 120The Bulldogs are a strong team that won the WAC last year. They appear to be strong again through the spring and ready for a repeat.
New Mexico State
118 of 120For a team that was already ranked 79th in the nation for offense, losing their starting QB is a setback. New Mexico State is in trouble in '12.
San Jose State
119 of 120The only bright spot the Spartans had last year was Matt Faulkner and he graduated. 2012 could be a long year for San Jose State.
Utah State
120 of 120Thanks to a late season rally, the Aggies made a bowl game. If their defense can tighten up, Utah State has the offense to head back to a bowl.
