College Football: 7 Locks to Have Losing Records in 2012

Sanjay KirpalaniApr 5, 2012

With spring practices underway across the country, the itch for college football has received a temporary scratch until September finally arrives.

While optimism abounds at practically every school this time of year, there are several programs that will be wishing for the next offseason to arrive sooner than later when the season begins.

There are several cases of teams facing different types of issues that will hinder their chances to keep their respective programs on the right track.

Baylor has to replace a once-in-a-generation talent in Robert Griffin III, who carried the program to its first bowl victory in 30 years.

Texas A&M struggled to rise to the top of the Big 12, and expecting them to do so in the gauntlet known as the SEC West is simply unrealistic in their first year in the conference.

Coaching changes at Pittsburgh and Arizona State—the latter acquiring the former’s coach from last season—will likely see their new eras struggle to get off to a positive start.

Mississippi State and Northwestern have managed to win at a level slightly above average, but below the powers in their respective conferences.

Miami faces an uncertain future—heavy personnel losses and a brutal schedule plus impending NCAA sanctions—which could hamper the progress made under Al Golden last season.

All of these programs have won at a decent level recently, but their respective issues facing their programs will threaten to put an end to their winning ways in 2012.
