SPL goals: Aberdeen Shock Celtic With a Surprise Defeat; Falkirk Fall at Rangers

Ronaldo Assis de Moreira Jan 18, 2009

Aberdeen 4 - Celtic 2 (SPL, January 18, 2009) Aberdeen took the lead in the 24th minute when a pin-point cross from Duff was headed home by Gary McDonald, but the lead lasted less than a minute as  McGeady crossed for Scott Brown to equalise. The Dons got themselves back in front just after the half-hour mark when Kerr’s cross was fired home by Stuart Duff. After the break Scott McDonald drew the league leaders level, but two late header from defender Zander Diamond (first and second) gave Aberdeen a famous victory. (Mark Kerr was lucky not to be sent off for a dangerous tackle on Andreas Hinkel.)

Rangers 3 - Falkirk 1 (SPL, January 17, 2009) Falkirk took the lead early on when Steve Lovell fired past Allan McGregor. Kris Boyd buried a spot-kick on the stroke of half-time to even things up. Minutes after the break Patrick Clegg saw red for a two-footed challenge on Pedro Mendes. Sasa Papac followed 12 minutes from time for a lunge on Mark Stewart before Boyd’s 20th goal of the season and a late Steven Davis strike sealed the win. Rangers gave a full debut to 17-year-old John Fleck (video evidence here), and he went on to receive the man-of-the-match award.
