Florida Football Recruiting 2013: Top In-State Prospects Gators Can't Let Slip
Last year, Will Muschamp signed a top-five class for the Gators in 2012. It was his first full cycle and his staff did an incredible job. But recruiting doesn't stop and 2013 is already under way.
Florida already has commitments for 2013 and the Sunshine State is stocked again with elite high school talent. Florida does a great job of luring Florida prep players to Gainesville and this year they're doing nothing different.
For this read, here are the top in-state players the Gators can't let away from their chomps.
7. Marcell Harris, DB
1 of 7Two years ago, Florida let Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix of Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Fla., slip away to rival Alabama.
This year, the Gators are working hard to not let that happen again.
Marcell Harris, a 6'2", 205-pound safety, is on the Gators' radar, and many pro-Florida recruits are in his ear about going to Gainesville.
Harris has great range on the back-end and can factor as either a free or a strong safety.
6. Leon McQuay, DB
2 of 7Another top-tier safety prospect, McQuay hails from routine Florida powerhouse prep program Armwood High School in Seffner, Fla. He's a long and lean player at 6'1" and 180 pounds, and he has safety skills.
I think McQuay is at his best when you leave a deep third to him to roam on the back end. Free safety could be his best spot, but don't count out McQuay becoming a corner in college.
Florida is in the mix, but it's early.
5. Ahmad Fulwood, WR
3 of 7Fulwood is a long 6'4", 200-pound glider on the field. He's a big-time receiver prospect thanks to good speed, a large catch radius, leaping ability and the length to high point balls.
Florida is one of his favorites right now, along with Georgia, USC, Alabama and Clemson. The Gators will have to work to win over Fulwood, but also watch out for Ohio State and Arkansas, too.
4. Stacy Coley, WR
4 of 7If Florida allows Coley to slip through its hands, then there's something seriously wrong the Gators' recruiting approach.
First, Coley is a Florida native. Second, he's the best WR in the state at 6'1" and 175 pounds, and he has great deep speed.
Third, and most importantly, the Gators are his favorite school and leader.
There's no way UF can let this guy get away from it, and the Gators should seal the deal ASAP.
3. Joey Bosa, DL
5 of 7Bosa hails from powerful St. Thomas Aquinas, which is the same school as current Gator CB starter Marcus Roberson.
Bosa stands 6'5" and weighs nearly 265 pounds. He can play strong DE or kick inside to DT thanks to great strength, solid snap quickness and a high-revving motor.
2. Vernon Hargreaves III, CB
6 of 7Hargreaves may be the nation's premier CB recruit this year, and he is a Sunshine Stater. He's from Tampa, Fla., and is the son of a coach.
Hargreaves plays with great technique, instincts, anticipation skills and speed. He's heady, understands what's going on and is growing in his ability to read routes.
1. Laremy Tunsil, OT
7 of 7At 6'6" and almost 285 pounds, Tunsil is the nation's No. 1 OL prospect and is a similar player to current Gator OT D.J. Humphries.
Tunsil hails from Lake City, Fla., and plays with great athleticism, knee bend, agility and quickness. He's raw in his technique, but he's got a skyscraper tall ceiling should he be developed correctly.
